The eight are suppressed by power. Like a female eagle seizing food, the essential instructions are gathered. The assembled retinue consists of the seven Buddhas. In the three divine realms, a great rain of nectar is poured down. These are the three supreme places where lotuses are piled up. Thus it was said. From the Great Tantra of Freedom from Elaborations, Illuminating the Meaning, the Eighty-third Chapter, the Chapter on the Five Perfections. Then, again, the Lord of Secrets asked: "Kye! Kye! Bhagavan Vajradhara, please explain the meaning of perfection and speak of its necessity." Having asked this, the Teacher replied: "Kye! Kye! Vajra Holder, listen well! I will explain the nature of perfection, the definition and distinctions of perfection, and the examples of perfection. First, the explanation of the nature is: the cause is the nature, it is accumulation; the necessity is to combine causes and conditions. Why is it called perfection? Because all necessities are complete, therefore it is perfection. The definition is that it possesses reasons. The distinctions are as previously explained. For example, the king, ministers, and people, wherever they gather, discussions will arise. This illustrates one aspect as an example." Thus it was said. Again, the Lord of Secrets asked: "The five perfections, what is the necessity of mentioning them? What fault will occur if they are not explained?" Thus he asked. The Teacher replied: "The necessity of mentioning the Teacher's perfection is: to make one believe that it was spoken from the Buddha's mouth, not fabricated by humans, and to become a true reason that is not deceptive. The necessity of mentioning the perfection of the doctrine is: to make one believe that it is not random but meaningful. The necessity of mentioning the perfection of the assembled retinue is: to make one believe that it is unique and spoken by the Teacher. The necessity of explaining the difference in place is: to make one believe that it was spoken in that specific place, not in another place where the essence was not explained. The necessity of mentioning the perfection of time is: to make one believe that it was not at different times before and after, but completed at the same time." Thus it was said. From the Great Tantra of Freedom from Elaborations, Illuminating the Meaning, the Eighty-fourth Chapter, the Chapter on Explaining the Meaning and Necessity of the Five Perfections. Then, again, the Lord of Secrets asked: "Kye! Kye! Bhagavan Vajradhara, the Tantra

How are the meanings explained? After asking this, the Teacher said: Explain the essence and definition of the tantra, and examples that are consistent. The explanation of the essence of the tantra is: the essence of the word tantra and the essence of the meaning tantra. The essence of the meaning tantra is: self-aware great wisdom. The essence of the word tantra is: it must be complete without adding, subtracting, or doing anything. The scriptures are shown as a collection of words. There are five types of definitions of tantra: connection, completeness, perfection, interweaving, and abundance, therefore it is called tantra. The divisions are word tantra and meaning tantra, which should be understood as described above. The example of connection is like a net; like a jewel that fulfills needs; complete perfection is like a tree; interweaving is like the threads of weaving. The tantras I have shown are explained in this way. Thus it was said. From the Great Tantra of Freedom from Elaborations and Clarity of Meaning, the chapter on explaining the meaning of the tantra, the eighty-fifth section. Then, the Lord of Secrets again asked: Kye! Kye! Bhagavan Vajradhara, please explain the extent of the tantra mentioned above. After asking this, the Teacher said: Vajradhara, listen carefully! There are ten aspects of the extent of the tantra. They are explained as two: empowerment and vows; shown as two: mandala and activities; explained as two: offerings and yoga; explained as two: mantra and mudra; shown as two: approach and accomplishment. O Vajradhara! Empowerment is shown in three aspects: showing how it is complete in the base, showing how it descends in stages, and showing the essence of empowerment. First, the way it is complete in the base is: in the inconceivable, unchanging Dharmakaya, the five wisdoms are clear. The appearance of others from oneself is: in the body of blazing precious light, the four rivers of empowerment appear from oneself, not others. Not conferred, it is inherently complete in the base. The compassion of the five bodies is unceasing, appearing as the five blood-drinking Herukas, the four rivers of empowerment arising from compassion. No need to seek, it is inherently complete in the base. That itself is the self-appearance of the wisdom body, it abides in its own state and is liberated in its own state. The four rivers of great wisdom empowerment. No need to seek, no need to confer, it is inherently complete in the base. Symbolizing this, the essence of speech is: the five precious syllables, no need to seek, they inherently exist in the base.
