Do. Son of lineage, listen well. The Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas are like a flowing stream. The example of a Bodhisattva is like the sky, illusion, hair-like appearances, and the moon in water, which appear as if they exist when they do not. Kriya is like a king and his subjects. Yoga is like brothers and friends. Maha Yoga is like the flourishing power of a king. Anu Yoga is like the equal union of male and female. Ati Yoga is like a great Garuda soaring in the sky. Thus it was said. Again it was asked: "O, O Bhagavan Vajradhara, please speak the verses that represent that." Thus it was asked. The Teacher replied: "In all the Tantras and Agamas that I have taught, whatever words such as 'view,' 'tenet,' 'truth,' 'ultimate,' 'final,' and 'fruit' appear, they are condensed into representative words. Know their respective states. O Great Bodhisattva, the belief in the duality of grasping and the grasped is said to be the view of the Shravakas. If one says that because there is grasping, there is no grasped, it is said to be the view of the Pratyekabuddhas. To speak of mind and the appearances of mind, and to speak of ultimate truth and conventional truth, is said to be the view of the Bodhisattvas. In all ultimate truths, if one desires three lineages, it is said to be the view of Kriya. If one desires two parts, it is said to be the view of Upa Yoga. If words desiring the seven branches of enlightenment appear, it is said to be the view of Yoga. Forty-two, fifty-eight, etc., are said to be the view of Maha Yoga. If phrases of non-arising completion appear, and if words of space and wisdom appear, it is the view of Anu Yoga. If phrases of transcending action appear, and if words of self-arisen wisdom appear, and if spontaneously accomplished primordial Buddhas, etc., appear, these are said to be the view of Dzogchen. This is just a brief summary." Thus it was said. From the Great Tantra of Freedom from Proliferation, Meaningful Clarity, the chapter explaining the meaning of view and showing the representative words, is of the same meaning. Then, again, the Lord of Secrets asked: "O, O Bhagavan Vajradhara, please speak, explaining the distinctions of contemplation of intention, its meaning." Thus it was asked. The Teacher replied: "Vajra-holder, listen well. Essence, definition, distinctions, and corresponding examples are shown in words. The essence abides as one. There are four types of definitions of contemplation, aiming at the object.

It is meditation. Because it is not distracted, it is meditation. Because it does not separate, it is meditation. It is habituation, familiarity, and non-carelessness. The divisions are shown as two types. With characteristics and without characteristics are the two. Without characteristics, there are also two: the great effortless method of meditation and meditation without effort. It is the same with characteristics. In short, there are two types: generation and completion. There are four examples symbolizing meditation: ghee residing in a tree, water and milk mixed together, like a jewel in clear water, and like a butter lamp in a vase. Alas! Lord of Secrets, be sure to remember! Wherever "intention" arises, meditation is samadhi, without distraction, without carelessness, without gathering or separation, abiding, habituation, and familiarity, whatever of these arises, it should be explained in the intonation of the appellation. Thus it is said. From the Great Tantra of the Clear Meaning Beyond Elaborations, the chapter explaining the meaning of meditation, accompanied by symbolic words, is the second chapter. Then, again, the Lord of Secrets asked: Alas! Alas! Bhagavan Vajradhara, please speak about the meaning of no-meditation. Thus he asked. The Teacher replied: Vajrapani, be sure to remember! The nature of no-meditation, the definition, the divisions, the similar examples, I will explain in words. The nature is self-awareness, without interruption. Not engaging with the mind, therefore it is the word of no-meditation. Naturally abiding, not differentiating, therefore it is not necessary to do. The divisions of no-meditation are two types: no-meditation with characteristics and no-meditation without characteristics. Each one also has two types: no-meditation at the base and no-meditation through realization. An example of no-meditation, without interruption, is shown like a river. Because no-meditation does not separate from meaning, like the petals of a honeybee collecting nectar. No-meditation naturally clear, like the essence of the sun's rays. Alas! Lord of Secrets, be sure to remember! I have explained in all the tantras and agamas, the words of no-meditation, the words of not needing to abide, the words of being unable to accomplish, the words of no gathering or separation, the great self-nature of natural purity, primordially without gathering or separation, transcending all actions and efforts, unable to travel on the path, realization manifest as enlightenment, great self-born wisdom.
