Dualistic clinging gives rise to the five poisons. As those fall asleep, clarity gathers upon the ground of the base. Ordinary bewilderment goes to sleep. For a person endowed with realization, having gone without dreams, knowledge is contained within the vase. Even if dreams arise without practice, one enters the vase until they cease. In dreams and in the waking state, in the instruction of self-illuminating awareness, whether dream-memories arise or waking memories arise, by remembering the meaning, clinging is self-liberated. Appearances, self-appearing, are purified in their own place. By the liberation of clinging, appearances are purified. If familiarity is strengthened, dreams will cease. The conduct of liberated clinging is self-illuminating like a butter lamp. When rising, the five objects are expanded: eye-objects to forms, ear-objects to sounds, nose-objects to smells, tongue-objects to tastes, body-objects to tactile sensations, and so forth. The five objects also appear. This is taught as self-appearance. Moving is the play of the wind's energy. Objects and appearances are merely forms. If there is no clinging to self-appearing objects, then external objects are sealed off. Appearance is said to be sealed off. When thoughts arise, remembering the meaning, non-clinging arises, and clinging is liberated. Liberated clinging does not allow thoughts to enter objects. If one practices and becomes familiar, thoughts will vanish. When there is no movement in the four times, self-awareness, the Dharmakaya, is self-illuminating. For example, the essence of the sun exists with clarity and non-clarity together. Awareness, the Dharmakaya, is the same, holding the four times with unwavering confidence. Thus it is said. From the Great Tantra of Freedom from Proliferation, Meaningful Clarity, the forty-fourth chapter, which teaches the instruction of equally applying the four times to the nature of conduct itself. Then, again, the Lord of Secrets asked: Kye kye, Great Vajradhara, if the conduct of the four times is like that, then what is the conduct of the three times? Thus he asked. Vajradhara replied: For the sake of the benefit of a worthy individual, the conduct of the three times should be practiced in this way. Self-awareness, the Dharmakaya, in the three times, like the sun inseparable from light, self-awareness is inseparable from clarity. Due to the power of not knowing, obscurations of clarity arise from negative imprints. Therefore, the conduct of the three times is precious. The time of equipoise of self-awareness and self-illumination, the time of subsequent attainment when distracted from that, the time of conceptual thought when the five poisons arise, these three are inseparable from the Dharmakaya, it is the recitation of conduct.

Thus it is explained. In the clarity of the Dharmakaya of equality, when distraction arises from it, whatever appears as the object is the manifestation of power. The clinging thought is naturally liberated, and because of the self-awareness of the Dharmakaya, the thought of ego-clinging is empty. Therefore, the appearance is self-appearing, and the clinging thought is liberated in its own place. When the coarse five poisons arise, anger appears as an enemy, and in the self-appearance, the appearance of clinging to an enemy is self-liberated. Because the meaning of self-aware Dharmakaya is realized, clinging thoughts, both subtle and coarse, are liberated in their own place. The five poisons are similarly applied to others as well. Arising from the power of the self-aware Dharmakaya, it also subsides into the nature of the Dharmakaya. (Nyingma Tantra, Ka 1) Called the Great Tantra of Meaningful Clarity Beyond Elaborations. For example, in the nature of space, clouds, smoke, and vapors arise. Although they arise, they arise from the nature of space, and when they subside, they subside into the nature of space. Self-arisen, self-appearing, the nature of space. When the external object itself appears, the power of inner awareness arises. If it is grasped by clinging, then it becomes a confused jumble of thoughts. The karma of sentient beings in samsara, the consciousness that flows towards objects is uninterrupted, and the clinging thought is self-liberated, which is the karma of wisdom's confused thoughts. Although one enjoys it with one's own awareness, yet, self-appearance is self-liberated, without clinging. When object and mind meet equally, clinging and liberation are simultaneous, and appearance is simultaneously pure. Thus it is said. From the Great Tantra of Meaningful Clarity Beyond Elaborations, the chapter on the practice of equally combining the three times, the fifty-fifth chapter is complete. The Lord of Secrets again asked: "O, O Bhagavan Vajradhara, without confidence in view, meditation, and action, how do the realms of demons arise? How are the means of reversing them?" When he asked thus, Vajradhara replied: "If one possesses confidence in view, meditation, and action, the realms of demons do not arise. As long as one does not possess confidence, eighteen realms of demons arise. If the view is mistaken and without confidence, grasping and the grasped, the five poisons of affliction arise. When meditation is without confidence and mistaken, the two demons of dullness and agitation arise. When action is without confidence and mistaken, seven demons arise in actions. If there is no confidence in view, meditation, and action, then four demons of experience arise. Thus, because it does not accord with the meaning, the realms of demons arise."
