Then, the extensive explanation is: The deviations of the eight vehicles and the explanation of the common deviations, please, Vajradhara, speak. Having requested thus, Vajradhara spoke: The deviations of meditating on the nine stages are clearly explained in the upper and lower contexts. The common deviations are explained as follows: Five deviations of emptiness in calm abiding, five deviations of clarity in insight, these two are the common deviations. Twelve deviations are explained in total. The five deviations on the side of emptiness are: The deviation of dull calm abiding is because conceptual thought is quiescence. The deviation of abandoning equanimity is to abide naturally without effort. The deviation of emptiness as annihilation is to not desire anything, neither matter nor consciousness. The deviation of non-conceptuality as confusion is the cessation of clarity without memory. The deviation of non-grasping as dullness is, although the appearance of objects arises, nothing is determined, not knowing one's own nature, there is no grasping. Although there is no grasping, there is no clarity. Therefore, it is shown as a deviation. Hey! Secret Lord, listen! The deviations of clarity in insight are the deviation of the imagined deity, the deviation of the light of characteristics, the deviation of the bliss of channels and winds, the deviation of the object of grasper and grasped, and the deviations of the suffering of samsara, etc., are deviations arising from clarity. The deviation of deliberate action is to focus on the mind without awareness. The deviation of confusion without practice is when ordinary people grasp onto themselves, and confusion is lost outwards. If the view realizes the meaning clearly, deviations, obscurations, and suffering will not arise. Thus it was said. From the Tantra of Great Clarity of Meaning Beyond Elaboration, the chapter on showing the deviations of meditation is the first. Alas! Alas! Great Vajradhara, the characteristic of meditation itself, if it is taught without error, if it is not understood as such, it will become a fault of meditation. Please speak the unerring instructions that do not lead to deviation. Having requested thus, Vajradhara spoke: Listen! Secret Lord Vajradhara, because one's own awareness, the Dharmakaya, is self-arisen without creating cause and condition, therefore cut off the deviation of sudden fabrication and thought. Because one's own essence abides in emptiness, therefore cut off the deviation of permanence of things, etc. Because its essence is clarity, therefore cut off the deviation of annihilation emptiness. Clarity and emptiness are non-dual.

Because of the nature of being one, cut off the mistake of clinging to the three samadhis. Because all qualities are spontaneously accomplished, cut off the mistake of hoping for results from elsewhere. Because compassion arises without interruption, cut off the mistake of compassion being interrupted, without benefiting beings. Because the two powers of clarity do not cease, cut off the mistake of calmness, equanimity, and non-conceptuality. Because the Dharmakaya abides in itself and does not need to be meditated upon, cut off the mistake of meditating on all conceptualizations of view and meditation.

Its conduct is: Like a great garuda soaring in the sky, acting without effort, naturally and completely. The conduct of the mind is: Like the water of the Ganges River, practicing continuous yoga. The conduct of the fruit is: Like the sun and its rays, practicing the three bodies without separation. Without moving from the state of mind, practicing the meaning with great wisdom. Yoga is the conduct of the mind. The conduct of yoga speech is: Like a rock echoing sounds, practicing without attachment to sounds. The conduct of body, speech, and mind is: Regarding the phenomena of samsara and nirvana in the world, like images in a mirror, practicing appearance without clinging. The conduct without memory is: Yogis should not be artificial, acting like a mad elephant. Like a bee sucking nectar from a flower, practicing yoga without attachment, wherever it is comfortable. The conduct of great compassion is: Like the essence of the sun, completely accomplishing the benefit of beings with body, speech, and mind. The conduct of compassionate yearning is: Like a mother to her only child, yogis practice the benefit of beings. The conduct of non-duality is: Not intentionally rejecting, not intentionally accomplishing, not intentionally practicing, not intentionally abandoning, in the state of non-fabrication, practicing the unobstructed nature. Thus it is said. From the Great Tantra of Clear Meaning Beyond Proliferation, the chapter on summarizing and explaining conduct, the thirty-third chapter. The Lord of Secrets again asked: Kye! Kye! Blessed Vajradhara, the common conduct is thus, what is the conduct of one's own characteristics? Please, Vajradhara, speak. Vajradhara replied: The common conduct is as before, for the practice of individuals, the conduct of one's own characteristics is: For those with the highest faculties, realizing with superior view, without separating from that state, view, meditation, and conduct are simultaneously perfected, not seeking the fruit from elsewhere, perfected suddenly at that very moment. The conduct of the middling and lower is: The conduct of the four times and the conduct of the three times as one. The conduct of the four times is: At bedtime, gather the five powers into the base, the five senses are the power of the base, the clarity of the base is not extinguished, relying on the senses, practice external objects, grasp
