A handful of boiled yogurt was transformed into a lake, one of the four famous great lakes. The source of the lake is Lung Glacier, and the end of the lake extends to Zama Guru, separated by many days' journey. The great accomplished Lingje Repa saw the scene in the lake and cried, saying, "Ah! Ah! Don't eat offerings, don't eat offerings!" When asked why, he said, "In this lake is the consciousness of a lama who eats offerings. He is born in a temporary hell and is suffering a lot." When asked to show it, he used his magical powers to dry up the lake in an instant. The body of a large fish, wherever the lake could reach, was filled with countless creatures, with no gaps, and they were devouring it, the pain unbearable, and it was writhing. When asked whose bad karma this was reincarnated as, he said, "This is the reincarnation of the Tsang Lama Black Horse." This Tsang Lama Black Horse, his eloquence and blessing were very great, and just a glance at those troubled by ghosts and demons could bring help, etc., so he became the object of offering for the four Rus of U-Tsang. He often added words like "PHAṬ(藏文,梵文天城体:फट,梵文罗马拟音:phaṭ,汉语字面意思:泼)SHAR(藏文)" when making offerings for the dead, and took away many horses and livestock. The accomplished Thangtong Gyalpo performed the illusory wheel of channels and winds on a huge rock, and as a result, half of the rock sank into the ground, and inside was a large frog, covered with countless small creatures, devouring it, the pain unbearable, its mouth wide open. When asked what this was, he said, "This is the reincarnation of a lama who performs blood offering rituals." Now the lamas are also like this, slaughtering the fat sheep of the patrons, and eating the throat and spleen, etc., with blood and flesh. When the trembling fresh yak ribs are placed on top and served, they pull the robes over their heads, sucking the internal organs like a child sucking a breast, picking up a piece of meat with their hands and putting it in their mouths, and then slowly eating the outer meat. After eating, their mouths are greasy, and steam rises from their heads, becoming different from before, like a red fat man lifting his head. The debts of eating and drinking in this life must be repaid on the body in the next life, so there is great suffering in the temporary hell. Similarly, Ngor Khenchen Pelden Chokyong...

When (a certain) Geshe was residing in (a certain place), one day he said, "Today, no matter what, do not let anything flow into this river of Ngulda." So he made many monks wait. In the afternoon, a large tree trunk was carried by the water, and they retrieved it and reported, "Other than this, nothing else has come." The Geshe said, "That's it. Split the trunk." When they split the trunk, they found a large frog inside, being eaten by many creatures. The Geshe performed bathing and other rituals for it, and said, "It is the reincarnation of Pogyay, the steward of Derge (present-day Derge County, Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province)." Therefore, those officials who oppress the people, even though they have great power now, should also think about these sufferings of hell and act cautiously. Similarly, in the past, when the Blessed One (Shakyamuni Buddha) was alive, a butcher in a certain place took a vow not to kill at night, and as a result, he was born in a temporary hell. At night, he lived in a magnificent and pleasant palace, where four beautiful women offered him food, drink, and enjoyment, and he felt very happy. But during the day, the palace turned into a burning iron house. The four women turned into terrifying bitches and devoured him. Also, there was a person who, because he did not steal during the day, experienced the joys and sorrows of day and night completely opposite to before. Also, he saw a creature as small as a grain of wheat being born from his ear. And there was a delightful monastery where about five hundred monks lived. Around noon, when they rang the gandi (a musical instrument used to summon monks) and gathered for lunch, the monastery turned into a burning iron house, and the bowls and cups turned into weapons, and they only beat each other. When the lunch time was over, everything returned to normal. It is said that this was the result of many monks arguing during lunch in the time of the Buddha Kashyapa. And so on. Thus, there are eight hot hells, eight cold hells, sixteen in total. Adding the neighboring hells and the temporary hells, there are eighteen in total. These eighteen are called the realms of hell. Having learned in detail about their numbers, lifespans, sufferings, and the causes of being born there, etc., then cultivate compassion for the beings born there. We must strive to ensure that neither ourselves nor others are born there in the future. If not, and we just listen to these words as stories without putting them into practice, then it will ultimately become a factor in fueling pride and self-satisfaction. This will be condemned by the holy ones and ridiculed by the wise.
