Therefore, it is crucial not to let leisure and endowment be wasted, to constantly maintain mindfulness and awareness, and not to abandon diligence. The demons of doubt and duality are: not gaining certainty in view and conduct, the mind remaining at a crossroads, not knowing what to do, knowledge being lost in back-and-forth conflict, and not adopting the acceptance and rejection of the yidam, thus failing to attain accomplishment, so whatever you do, ask the lama, and study the biographies of the noble lamas. The demon of clinging to duality is: clinging to things, all inner and outer dharmas being lost in object and mind, separate self-continuums, the two truths being lost as separate, thus all paths not becoming the cause of omniscience, so it is crucial to contemplate the meaning of non-duality. These are the obstacles to the path because inner, one's own negative karma, disturbs the mindstream, so they should be examined and abandoned. There are also six secret demons: The demon of desiring peace and sectarian bias is: clinging to one's own view and tenets, and being attached to them, thus creating sectarian bias with other schools.

The demonic obstacles of moral discipline and asceticism are: When practicing meditation in solitude, if one is too strict with food and behavior, samadhi will not arise. When illness occurs, one does not know the timing of allowance and prohibition, and abandoning foods that balance the elements will become an obstacle to body and life. The demonic obstacles of patience and endurance are: Excessive physical exertion leads to illness. When illness occurs, instead of relying on remedies such as medicine and treatment, one stubbornly endures, which becomes an obstacle to body and life. The demonic obstacles of diligence and exhaustion are: Practice is too rushed, the body cannot bear it, or one becomes bored and regresses. The demonic obstacles of meditative attachment are: Merely clinging to the state of mental abiding, without striving for profound causes of learning and contemplation that liberate wisdom. The demonic obstacles of wisdom's proliferation of poison are: Through the wisdom of hearing, contemplation, and meditation, arrogance and other afflictions increase. The remedy for this is to rely on lamas and wise people, and to strive for learning and contemplation. These, like medicine that has not been digested and turns into illness, become obstacles to the path, so examine and abandon these secret demonic obstacles. In short, anything that harms the continuum of a yogi and does not allow him to be liberated should be recognized as a demonic obstacle and abandoned. Now, the causes for these demonic obstacles to arise are explained: If one does not exert diligence on the path, it is a cause for demonic obstacles to arise. If wisdom is shallow, it is said to be a real demonic obstacle. If afflictions are strong, it is a cause for demonic obstacles to arise. If conceptual thoughts are strong, it is the waving of a demon. If the mind is scattered, it is a cause for demonic obstacles to arise. If one is not taken care of by a qualified lama, it is like having no escort. If the key instructions are not profound, if one associates with bad friends, if attachment is strong, if intense desire is rampant, one will be seized by a demon. If the craving for meat and alcohol is strong, if the mind is frivolous and effort is lacking, one will be carried away by a demon. If knowledge is narrow and cannot be tamed, if one is arrogant and conceited, if a beginner likes to be alone in solitude, if one lives near a large, commercially prosperous city, if one lives in a place where there is discord with the sangha and individuals, if one makes many vows that cannot be fulfilled, if one practices ascetic bodhi without oral instructions, one will be carried away by a demon. If the mind is not stable and one does not pay special attention to vows, if one is particularly attached to dreams, one will be deceived by a demon. If one likes signs and omens, if one becomes discouraged and disheartened due to certain circumstances.

If a yogi feels unwell and afflicted by sorrow due to self or other causes, it is a cause for demonic influence, so these should be examined and avoided. The activities and sphere of activity of demons are: Relying on a student who does not possess the qualities is the work of a demon; relying on a student who does not have the fortune is the work of a demon; associating with a teacher and student who do not agree in view and conduct; exerting effort in listening and contemplation that does not lead to the path; exerting intense effort in diligence that does not lead to the essential point; associating with profit and fame; gathering a retinue and teaching the Dharma with arrogance; being a teacher to others even though one has no qualities oneself; associating with the Three Jewels without faith and respect in one's heart; enjoying teaching without understanding; desiring accomplishments without the ability to practice; engaging in medicine, mantras, auspicious connections, etc., for the sake of livelihood; Dharma practitioners living by trade and wrong livelihood; living by the five wrong livelihoods; enjoying chaotic student-teacher relationships and taking material possessions; not abandoning and relying on bad objects that harm the mind; Enjoying and desiring worldly amusements; entering into the midst of busyness and distraction; relying on the causes of pride and arrogance; horses and fine clothes, etc.; acting without mindfulness and awareness; indulging immoderately in women, meat, alcohol, and sleep; everything is motivated by the eight worldly concerns; doing many things; going and coming a lot; speaking a lot; having many thoughts, these are the activities of demons. In short, all conduct that is not in accordance with the Dharma should be recognized as the activity of demons and the sphere of activity of demons, and should be completely abandoned. There are two signs of being blessed by demons: The first is the common sign: The five poisons of affliction in one's own mind become more intense than before, and if the motivation and causes for these afflictions increase, it is a sign of being blessed by demons. Without cause, the energy of the body is exhausted and meditation is lost; suddenly there are many illnesses and sufferings, etc.; memory deteriorates and ignorance becomes more dense; feeling unwell and unhappy for no reason; wanting to die and engaging in actions such as suicide, etc.; Giving away one's own flesh, blood, limbs, etc., to others at an inappropriate time; disliking one's own body, despising the body, and cutting off the flesh and limbs of the body for no reason, etc.
