In short, the root is that the mind is most important, so one must strive to work on the mind. First, the perfection of generosity is contained in the mind of wanting to give all of one's possessions to sentient beings, and if one has such a mind of generosity, it is the perfection of generosity. It is not necessary to abandon the poverty of all sentient beings, as it says in the Bodhicaryāvatāra: If abandoning the poverty of beings is the perfection of generosity, then since beings are still poor, how could the previous protector be a perfection? It is said that giving all possessions together with their fruits to all beings with a mind of generosity is the perfection of generosity, therefore, the perfection of generosity refers to the mind itself. And so on. Discipline is also the perfection of discipline when one obtains the mind of abandoning one's own misdeeds. For example, from one's own side, the mind of abandoning the killing of sentient beings is discipline. It is not necessary to obtain the state where those sentient beings who should be killed will definitely not be killed by anyone, as it says in the previous text: Wherever there are fish and so on, driving them away to a place where they will not be killed, from the moment one obtains the mind of abandonment, it is said to be the perfection of discipline. And so on. Patience is also, if one subdues one's own anger, there is nothing more excellent than that. External sentient beings are untamed, like the sky, so how can one subdue them all? By subduing one's own mind alone, one subdues all enemies. For example, to prevent thorns from piercing the feet, it would be extremely difficult to cover the entire ground with leather, but by covering the soles of one's own feet with leather, it is no different from covering the entire ground. As it says in the Bodhicaryāvatāra: Sentient beings are untamed like the sky, it is not possible to subdue them all, but if one subdues one anger, it is like subduing all enemies. Similarly, I cannot turn back external objects either, I should turn back my own mind, what else is there to turn back? To cover this ground with leather, where is there enough leather? Just with leather the size of the soles of shoes, it is like covering the entire ground. And so on. The perfection of diligence is also, the mind's virtuous diligence is most important, even the rank of Brahma, which cannot be obtained by striving for a long time with physical and verbal diligence, can be obtained in a moment of loving-kindness.

To not forget to think in this way is mindfulness. Secondly, at all times and in all circumstances, one should examine oneself, and for all actions of body, speech, and mind, one should first have awareness. Now I am thinking like this, I am speaking like this, I am doing like this. Examine repeatedly in this way, abandon all actions of the three doors that contradict the teachings of the sons of the Buddhas, and one must practice all that should be practiced. As it is said in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: One should examine again and again, The state of one's body and mind. In short, that alone Is the characteristic of guarding awareness. So it is said. Thirdly, since one possesses mindfulness and awareness in this way, one should always be diligent, taking great care to avoid all wrongdoing and non-virtuous actions, relying on the antidotes to one's own afflictions, and striving to transform even a moment of mental thought into the path of virtue. Therefore, mindfulness, awareness, and vigilance are the essential keys to all trainings and are of great importance. As it is said in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: My gains and honors, my body and livelihood are easily lost, and other virtues are also easily diminished, but the mind should never be diminished. For those who wish to protect the mind, mindfulness and awareness should be protected with all effort. I prostrate with folded hands in this way. And in the Suhrllekha: Vigilance is the place of nectar, and negligence is the place of death, as the Able One has declared. Therefore, for the sake of increasing virtue, always respectfully be vigilant. So it is said. Thus, by possessing mindfulness, awareness, and vigilance, one must train in all the bodhisattva trainings; otherwise, if one invites all the Buddhas of the ten directions and their retinues before the guru, the spiritual friend, and takes the vow to generate the mind of enlightenment, but does not train in the trainings, then one will have deceived those Buddhas and their retinues, and one will also have deceived all sentient beings of the three realms, and there will be immeasurable faults. Therefore, one should abandon laziness and cowardice towards the vast conduct of the bodhisattvas, and practice as much as one can. Those things that one cannot do, one should make the object of aspiration. Thus, even if one practices with effort and diligence, there will be things one does not know and has not
