Arriving with power. Enjoying happiness and competing with the gods. The ruler possesses a wheel-turning king. Authority is wielded with a golden wheel. Servants are surrounded by the four continents and subcontinents. The law flourishes with the ten virtues. People increase and go to the heavenly realms. Gods increase, and flower gardens are filled. Nowadays, in the dregs of the degenerate age. The dilapidated walls of villages are connected. Tobacco fields are linked in a line. Enjoyment is made of eating flesh and blood. The ruler is like a messenger of hell. Authority is changed by war and conflict. Servants are surrounded by beings of bad karma. The law flourishes with deception and greed. The endless roots are seized by swindlers. Swindlers frequent the gates of the lower realms. What increases is the hot and cold hells. In battle, the Asuras and Rakshasas prevail. In food, the lords of disease and demons are great. The king on the throne engages in deception. With methods, the innocent are sentenced. With lies, the faults of servants are enumerated. With deception, oneself and others are led to ruin. The lama under the umbrella engages in deception. Using the sacred Dharma as a tool for deception. Exaggerating psychic powers with false prophecies. Engaging in the buying and selling of wealth with power. Showing favoritism to rulers with influence. Reversing the misfortunes of villages with Dharma. The hermitage meditator engages in deception. Lying like a corpse in the hermitage. When seen by ordinary people, they pretend to be virtuous. Secretly hiding their own wealth. Speaking flattering words in front of patrons. Ordinary people engage in deception. The mind is like a potter's wheel. Observing what is needed and turning the wheel. Speech is like a blacksmith's tools. Observing where to go and changing the topic. Actions are like the summer sky. Now it is white, but now it is black. The exterior is like the mouth of a bee. When eating, it is there, but when finished, it is not. Maintaining face is like the wrinkles on the forehead. The beginning is good, but later it is not. Faith is like the lobes of the lungs. It is on the mouth, but not in the heart. Practitioners engage in deception. Hearing and thinking are like the body of a tadpole. The head is big, but the tail is thin. Seeking meaning is like the mouth of a frog. When listening, it is there, but when practicing, it is not. Deceiving the lama with lies. Disguising what is not Dharma as Dharma with deception. Verbally proclaiming practice with illusion. When the earth is seized by swindlers. From where can the path of truth be found? When the country is filled with falsehood. To whom can the theories of the wise be explained? When the king himself destroys the law.

Time. To whom do the subjects turn for happiness and sorrow? When lamas seek their own benefit, who will help the helpless? When officials oppress servants, who will the vulnerable rely on? Alas, alas, alas, emptiness! A little boy feels deep sorrow from the bottom of his heart. In the fangs of the impermanent demon, sentient beings of the three realms wander and run. Still bound by the clinging to permanence, striving for self-interest in this life, slapping chest and hands in regret at the time of death. Decide on the Dharma for tomorrow, postpone the Dharma for the next life. Look at how people think that the body that is alive this morning will be a corpse this evening. Tomorrow and the next life, which will come first, do you know? I, the little boy Padma Gyepa, have met the lama, the actual Buddha. He holds me with loving-kindness and compassion. My faith and devotion are one-pointed. I have never been insincere or artificial. My requests are whatever comes to mind. I never choose words or phrases. My actions and behavior are natural and free. I have never been deceitful or secretive. The one person I trust, the one god I have, I have never sought refuge elsewhere. I have stayed long in the presence of holy beings, relied on many wise lamas, seen widely the unbiased doctrines. Therefore, I know the Dharma and what resembles the Dharma. Golden little bee, you with wide wings, if you truly intend to practice the Dharma, if you have truly generated renunciation from the depths of your heart, then you need a Dharma that abandons what is similar but not the same. At first, when seeking the path of Dharma, there is something similar to this sorrow. The sorrowful lament of a suffering person, one; discouragement due to sudden events, two; disappointment in the expectations of beloved friends, three; complaints of the hardship of labor and toil, four; the impermanent aggregation of the five skandhas, five. Similar sorrow, but not true sorrow. There is something similar to this renunciation. The desire to adorn oneself with affectation, one; the desire for the ease of a quiet hermitage, two; recitations with the hope of power, three; visiting famous sites for sightseeing, four; the eight worldly dharmas of hope and doubt, five. Similar renunciation, but not true renunciation. There is something similar to holding a hermitage. Outwardly strict, inwardly lax, that is one; undisciplined and unrestrained, that is two; mastering skills and developing culture, that is three; being busy with immediate tasks and many affairs, that is four; sleeping and wasting life, that is five. Staying in a hermitage, but without essence. Cling
