The suffering of some appears as happiness to others. The appearance to some sentient beings is darkness to others. The darkness of some is the light of others. Both light and darkness: those who dwell in the midst of darkness cannot even see the extension and contraction of their hands. The son of the gods, Lotus Delight, asked Manjushri: "What are the external mountains, trees, and blue things made of?" Manjushri replied, "They are made from the habitual patterns of the mind's illusory appearances." The son of the gods said, "It is impossible for them to be made from the illusory appearance of one person." Manjushri said, "They are made from illusory appearance. In India, there was a low-caste Brahmin named Fire Offering. He thought, 'If I could become a tiger and eat these cities!' He meditated on this repeatedly, and eventually he became a tiger and emptied the cities." After Manjushri told this story, the son of the gods saw it and became convinced. Manjushri said, "All of these are the habitual patterns of the mind's illusory appearances. If you grasp them as truly existent, they will have the function of benefit and harm." When you train your mind, understand from morning to night that whatever happiness or suffering you dream of—being carried away by water, falling off a cliff, being bitten by a dog, etc.—when you wake up, it has no inherent existence. Train your mind to see all daytime appearances—subduing enemies, protecting friends, good and bad companions, happiness and suffering—as being like last night's dream. The key instruction for training is like a dream. The object of training is also like a dream. The person who is training must also have the three aspects of being like a dream. From the habitual patterns of the mind's illusory appearances, the body is light. In the formless realm, there is a body of samadhi, mind, and awareness. In the form realm, there is a body of light. In the desire realm, most are substantial bodies of flesh and blood. In the bardo and in dreams, there appears a body of mind. For example, with regard to a horse, white horses, red horses, yellow horses, spotted horses, black horses, and so on are formed from the habitual patterns of each one's karmic appearances. The eight collections of consciousness that discern meaning are called mind. First, demolish the house of the preliminary mind. Tracing the source, the place of arising, and the destination are the same in meaning, but different in name. The place of arising and the destination are the iron snake. Vajra Drub Rinpoche said, "For example, the eye sees a white horse."

If it dies and is disposed of by birds, dogs, etc., it is like a horse dying without even leaving a tail. If external objects of grasping are understood in this way, it is said that the knowledge of the subject becomes clear as a result. Next, there are five aspects to ascertain the non-erroneous part: clear and bright, pure and clear, empty and vast, nothing at all, and inexpressible by speech, thought, or words. First, clear and bright: if you don't think there is something clear and bright in your mind, it's meaningless to say "clear and bright." Does the clear and bright thing say, "I am clear and bright"? Conversely, do you think it is clear and bright? It is necessary to carefully examine whether this clear and bright thing is heard by the ears, seen by the eyes, or written in letters. The clear and bright of the external world is the light of the sun and moon, so if it is bright, then its meditation is outside, causing the separation of body and mind. For example, if a child is blind from birth and both ears are deaf, then when he grows up, no matter what someone shows the blind person, his eyes will not see and his ears will not hear. Hoping to meditate through the clear appearance of the external world is the function of eye consciousness. It doesn't exist when the eyes are closed, so it is not bright. If you think that brightness is inside the body, no matter what you think of the twelve organs, you will not see brightness. Repeatedly examine the three aspects of outer, inner, and intermediate. Thinking of clear and bright is the object of grasping, and the one who thinks "clear and bright" is the grasping mind. Grasping and being grasped are the root of samsara, the source of suffering, the stumbling block on the path, and the support and pillar of sins and obscurations, it is said. Second, pure and clear: if you don't think there is something pure and clear in your mind, it's meaningless to say "pure and clear." Does the pure and clear thing think that it is pure and clear? Conversely, do you think it is pure and clear? Is this pure and clear thing heard by the ears, seen by the eyes, or written in letters? Is this pure and clear thing in the external world, or in the middle, or inside? It is necessary to examine it carefully. Thinking of pure and clear is the object of grasping, and the one who thinks "pure and clear" is the grasping mind, so grasping and being grasped are the root of samsara, etc., it is said. Third, empty and vast, if there is nothing in the mind
