That appearance arises without any before or after in time, and is called co-emergent ignorance. At that time, it does not merely remain in a state of unknowing, but rather the mind thinks: "Did 'I' arise from that knowing brother? Or did that arise from 'I'?" The part of grasping and fixation that does not understand the compassionate self-awareness is extremely subtle, and this is called imputational ignorance. The four conditions are: The causal condition is the three ignorances, or co-emergent ignorance not recognizing itself. The objective condition is the appearance of various things such as light. The dominant condition is not recognizing self-appearance and grasping it as other. Immediately after that, the condition is that the delusion of grasping and fixation becomes coarser, obscuring self-appearing wisdom and falling into a shell of delusion, so that endless deluded appearances arise. Thus it is said. Furthermore, regarding the Alaya. Mipham Rinpoche said: The actual Alaya is the Tathagatagarbha, the basis of all uncontaminated dharmas. The Alaya of samsara is the basis of all contaminated dharmas, and therefore it is called Alaya. In "The Lamp of Definitive Meaning," the "Samantabhadra Prayer" says: "May all sentient beings in the three realms, have the Alaya equal to the Buddha and me." Thus it is said, the Alaya here is the Alaya that combines with the actual meaning, or the wisdom of the Alaya, which is the Tathagatagarbha itself. Also, in the "Ornamented Array Sutra," it says: "The various lands are the Alaya, the Tathagatagarbha is also that. On that treasury, the Tathagata established the name Alaya. The Tathagata proclaimed that the treasury is the Alaya, but those of inferior intellect cannot know it." That is to say, the obscurations of the various habitual tendencies of samsara and nirvana, and the total basis or source, the dharmata, of all conditioned dharmas, such a basis, the non-elaborate Tathagatagarbha is also it, thus it is identified. The Tathagatagarbha is established with the name Alaya by the Tathagata, the fully enlightened Buddha. The Tathagata proclaimed that the Tathagatagarbha is the Alaya. In the "Sandhinirmocana Sutra," it says: "The consciousness that takes hold is extremely deep and subtle, the seeds flow like a waterfall. If one grasps it as self, it is unreasonable, I have not fully revealed this to children." Thus it is said, regarding the Alaya of various habitual tendencies, combined with the way of grasping, those of inferior intellect will

Regarding the way of establishing the Tathāgatagarbha Ālaya: If one mistakenly thinks that Ālaya is a coarse thing, then one will not understand the subtle way of establishing it. Thus it is said. In the *Extensive Wisdom Tantra*, it says: "The abiding place is called Ālaya, karma and consciousness depend on it." So, what is the nature of such an Ālaya? It is the basis from which various kinds of consciousness arise, it is the awareness that does not favor any side, it is focused on the vast container and content world without distinguishing the details of the object, its nature is the formless samādhi that abides in one point like an ocean where the waves of coarse conceptual thoughts have subsided, and the clear part whose nature is awareness that is not obscured by one's own mind, which is included in the realm of form. It does not make discriminations, like a clear sky without clouds, this non-discrimination is the peaceful, profound, subtle nature that holds the imprints of previous consciousness and becomes the basis for subsequent consciousness, which is difficult to realize. Thus it is said. In the *Khandro Yangtik*, it says: This can also be illustrated with an example from one aspect, such as when a person is resting, the consciousness temporarily has no discriminations and remains in an unspecified state, this is the Ālaya. After that, the appearance appears brightly without interruption, but since there is no attachment, this state of clarity without discrimination is called Ālayavijñāna. When consciousness is active during the day, it also arises from the Ālaya and manifests as aggregates that correspond to the object. When sleeping at night, the seven coarse aggregates of discrimination such as form, sound, smell, taste, and touch, when falling asleep, the clear and non-discriminating consciousness merges into the Ālayavijñāna. The Ālayavijñāna also gradually merges into the non-discriminating sleep consciousness Ālaya. Then, it also merges into the unborn, inconceivable Dharmakāya and abides for a while. Realizing it is called realizing the basic luminosity of non-discrimination. In short, Ālaya is the state of ignorance that is non-discriminating, free from distraction and confusion, this is the Ālaya. Dharmakāya is the single bindu of the union of clarity and emptiness. If we analyze the Dharmakāya, then the basic Dharmakāya refers to the state with temporary defilements. The Dharmakāya of the path refers to the realization of various kinds of reality by yogis during the path. The Dharmakāya of the result refers to the Buddha who has two kinds of purity at the time of the result, free from the two obscurations.
