Whispered recitation, and obstructive recitation, which involves holding the breath and focusing the mind on the form and sound of the mantra; and mental recitation, which involves not even holding the breath, but merely recalling the form or sound of the mantra in the mind; along with exhaling from the nada of the seed syllable, emitting light or rays with the sound of Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum), accomplishing the two benefits. When inhaling, retract with the sound of Oṃ (Tibetan: ༀ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओ, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om). When abiding, dissolve into the nada with the sound of Āḥ (Tibetan: ཨཱཿ, Sanskrit Devanagari: आ, Sanskrit Romanization: āḥ, Literal Chinese meaning: Ah), or combine with one's own mantra and perform Vajra recitation, and so on. The actual method of recitation is: if one knows the place of origin of the letters, the manner of producing the sound, the operation of the tongue and lips, etc., without confusion, each letter should be neither too fast nor too slow, long vowels should not be short, and short vowels should not be long, no letters should be added, nor should the letters themselves be omitted, and one should avoid faults such as the sound being too loud or too soft, and during the session, one should recite without interruption by talking to others, yawning, coughing, etc. The Raudraksakalpa says: The sound should not be loud nor small, not fast nor slow, not forceful nor weak, not deficient in letters or parts, not distracted nor while speaking, not interrupted by yawning, etc. That is to say, if one knows the combination of the sound and meaning of the mantra, there is a need to accomplish the dharani of meaning, etc. The Tantra says: For the wise, who have no doubt about the meaning, accomplishment is near. Even if one does not understand the combination, if one recites with single-pointed faith and devotion, great accomplishment will occur as it is. It is also said: Or for the foolish but faithful, the accomplishment of combination is near. This can also be understood from the stories of the accomplished master Andhakacarya and Sakya Pandita subduing the thief. If one translates a mantra that is in Chinese into Tibetan, or translates Tibetan words that are mixed with Chinese into Chinese, or translates the secret language of the dakinis or other languages into newly created words that conform to grammatical rules and then recites them, there will be no accomplishment. Why? Because the one who spoke the secret mantra in the past has blessed that language, but not the newly created and translated language, so the truthful words of the speaker do not come to pass.

For the sake of not regressing. In general, examining the rituals of secret mantras and so on, it is said that the attainment of siddhis will be prolonged. As it is said: "The logician who speculates and examines, his attainment is very distant." And: "In the combination of substances and mantras, if you examine, siddhis will not arise. If doubt arises in the mind, or the thought changes, or faith diminishes, then even the near siddhis will surely revert." Therefore, it is important to recite with one-pointed devotion. The arrangement of the mantra garland: This is because the wisdom and immeasurable magical powers of the Buddha are profound secrets that equally enter the realm of those to be tamed, and there is no distinction between whether or not they can be blessed based solely on the differences in Tibetan and Chinese scripts. Therefore, it is said that it should be arranged in whatever way is convenient, whether clear or careful, and there is no need to change it. Starting from the root heart-essence seed syllable, the letters of the mantra to be recited are surrounded by a garland that is very thin, clear, and shining like a fine writing. That is, according to one's own tradition, the mantra garlands that need to rotate to the right have the face of the mantra facing outwards, and the letters are arranged to the left in order to stand up in the direction of reading from the outside in. The beginning of the garland-like rotation is like Oṃ (Tibetan: ༀ, Devanagari: ओ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Oṃ), and the ending mantra syllables such as Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hūṃ), Hrīḥ (Tibetan: ཧྲཱིཿ, Devanagari: ह्रीः, Romanized Sanskrit: hrīḥ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hrīḥ) meet. For long mantras, the beginning of the letters is written from the front, with the beginning of the mantra facing inward and the end of the mantra facing directly outward, arranged in two or three coils like a snake. When reciting, it is necessary to rotate in a way that allows reading to the right. For mantra garlands that need to rotate to the left, starting from the front of the heart-essence, the letters are arranged to stand up as before, with the face of the mantra facing inward, and arranged in a rightward rotation from the inside out. Long mantras are rotated inside and out in the same way as before. When reciting, it is necessary to rotate to the left. The way mantra garlands rotate to the right and left: Generally speaking, the father deities rotate to the right and the mother deities rotate to the left, but this is not always the case, so it should be according to one's own tradition. Also, for those that do not require the mantra garland to actually rotate, but rather emit or absorb light from it, the direction in which the face of the mantra is shown is reversed from the above, and the direction of rotation to the right and left is the main thing.
