arises. Also, in between, teach the Dharma. There the extent of manifestation also has two types: with hindrance and without hindrance. With hindrance refers to being disturbed by the appearance of wild animals, wild people, people, and wealth, and is called with hindrance. Without hindrance refers to formless gods, demons, and the eight classes of non-humans. Therefore, as it is said by Khyentse Lhas: "The harm of the four elements with hindrance, and the enemy of tangible humans, wild animals, poisonous snakes, ghosts, and demons manifest their illusions in reality. That is to subdue with the power of asceticism. Without hindrance, attachment, anger, hope, and afflictions, sudden circumstances cause delusion and imagination. Therefore, fear and various hallucinations arise from this cause, and suddenly the mind is uneasy and the heart rises. Joyfully clinging to one's own excellent qualities, and the appearance and prophecies of worldly dakinis, the increase of activities for the benefit of beings and prosperity, and the great power of speech, remembering the words of others, arrogant Vajra Master's actions, and doubt and wrong views arise in the practice of Dharma. The assembly of Vajra brothers and enemies and neutrals, due to the causes of doubt, wrong views, and suspicion, hope and doubt, demons enter, and one falls into a state of confused delusion." As it is said, among the three outer, inner, and secret demons, the first is: from the outer environment, the tangible harm caused by tangible appearances is the with hindrance Skandha Demon, and the appearance of the outer six senses becoming the cause of afflictions is the Affliction Demon. Attachment and joy arise from the respect and praise of others, and the increase of activities for the benefit of beings and prosperity, is the Joy Demon. Wrong views and doubts arise towards the Vajra Master and Dharma friends, Dharma, and practice, which is the Arrogant Death Demon, these four. The second is: the inner illusory body's aggregates appear as beneficial and harmful, and delusion arises due to hope and clinging, which is the Skandha Demon. The six consciousnesses follow after enemies and friends, and delusion arises, which is the Affliction Demon. Pride and arrogance arise towards one's own lineage, qualities, etc., the arising of mind is the Joy Demon. The mind falls into a state of confused delusion, becoming lazy and indifferent, which is the Arrogant Demon, these four. The third is delusion arising from clinging to self, is the Skandha Demon. Delusion arises from being influenced by the five poisons of afflictions, which is the Affliction Demon.

Clinging to temporary happiness is a deva-mara, and ignorant pride is the death-mara; these are the four maras. Therefore, Machig Labdrön said: "Going to wild, sacred places is the outer severance; offering the aggregates as food is the inner severance; cutting through the single root is the ultimate severance." As it is said, it should be understood. Then, regarding the extent of appearances, outer appearances are the magical displays of gods and demons, inner appearances are the illnesses of the body, secret appearances are the various joys and sorrows of the mind, and so on, which arise uncertainly. The first is appearance, the second is clinging, and the third is delusion, which is being controlled. The first is appearance, the second is recognition, and the third is taking one's own ground, which is severance. Furthermore, there are three levels: the level of appearance, the level of exhaustion, and the level of severance. The first is: in reality, experience, dreams, and so on, the three doors of body, speech, and mind are stirred up. The second is: the level of exhaustion is when, in reality, experience, and dreams, no matter what good or bad arises, the mind remains in its natural state, which is the level of exhaustion. The third is: the union of appearance and mind is the level of severance. When gods, demons, and humans pledge to be servants, that is the ultimate level of severance. Therefore, in that place, wild, sacred places are no longer severed. Thus, if subjugation does not arise, then visualize yourself as the wrathful black mother, your body as large as Mount Meru, and eat Mount Meru as food. Drink the ocean in one gulp, and repeatedly think of all the gods and demons dwelling there as being spread out as a seat. Even if that does not arise, then think that all phenomena and existence are pervaded by your own great appearance, and gather all the gods and demons dwelling there like reflections in a mirror, and place them under your own bed. Even if the extent of appearance does not arise, then visualize yourself as the wrathful black mother, whirling a human-skin amulet in your right hand around your head and striking it on the ground, causing all the Mount Merus to shake and the ocean to splash. All the plants are scattered by the wind, and think that all the gods and demons dwelling there are trembling and fleeing in terror. With your left hand, blow the flute made of a human leg bone three times. With the first sound, destroy Mount Meru. With the second, destroy and dry up all the rocky mountains and lakes. With the third, think that all the gods and demons are gathered under the seat as if forcibly put to sleep. Even if that does not arise, then visualize yourself as the wrathful black mother, with both hands turning upside down all the dwellings and houses of the gods and demons, and underneath is boiling wrathful water and blazing fire, with a wide mouth and deep bottom, about to fall into it.
