He recited the Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra. He thought: "If this learned master is a noble being and is renowned for knowing the minds of others, then if this is true, I will also praise his virtues. If it is not true, then he is deceiving the people, and I must refute him in the midst of the crowd and make him lose face." So he consulted with the ministers, the Brahmins, and about five hundred trusted people. In the courtyard of the palace, in the midst of many people, he invited the learned master and his entourage. He offered abundant food and clothing. Inside the house, he hid a black buffalo smeared with white clay. In a golden vase, he poured various impure substances, sealed it with honey, covered it with cloth, and held it in his hand. He asked: "What is in this house? What is this that I am holding?" He answered truthfully. He thought: "Even those with minor clairvoyance can know such small hidden things. Does he really know minds or not?" So he mentally asked three questions about the words of the Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra and three questions about its meaning, a total of six questions. He answered them as they were, and he also composed short treatises corresponding to the three natures and so on. Among them, the three questions about the words were: "The term 'Bodhisattva,' what is it a synonym for?" When he answered, "The Bodhisattva is not truly seen," does this answer not become an unprophesied view? The example of a very large bird with a body of five hundred yojanas, to what meaning is this large body related? If the signs of mountains and forests are not seen, it means being close to the ocean. Where is the boundary where the signs are not seen?" Among these three questions, the first concerns intrinsic emptiness, the second concerns the great power of virtuous actions, and the third concerns the great supreme Dharma. The three questions about the meaning were: "Is the ālaya-vijñāna (藏文:ཀུན་གཞི་རྣམ་པར་ཤེས་པ་,梵文天城体:आलयविज्ञान,梵文罗马拟音:ālayavijñāna,汉语字面意思:阿赖耶识) substantially existent or non-existent? Since it is said that all dharmas are without intrinsic nature, is that which is without intrinsic nature also without intrinsic nature?" It is explained that emptiness does not make all dharmas empty. Who is it that does not make them empty, and what is the emptiness that does not make them empty?" To the first question, he answered: "It is substantially existent in conventional truth, but it does not exist in the wisdom of ultimate truth." The second question is without intrinsic
