There are various and coarse thoughts of memory and recollection. Because of these, the habits of the day are led into dreams. Since there is also something to be attained through one's own effort and desire, it is not solely dependent on blessings. Because there is no function of memory in deep sleep, this clear light of sleep, unless it arises naturally at that time, cannot be practiced in other ways. One must rely on the connection of vital points in the body, and the blessings of the lama and the yidam deity. Thus, these four preliminaries, because there is no new foothold that has not been shown before, the contemplation section is not listed separately. It is fine whether it is completed in one session, or two or three sessions, etc. Secondly, the main practice is divided into four parts: seizing the clear light, taking the path, blending, and the ultimate. First, there are three ways to seize the clear light: relying on the selflessness mother, relying on the letter A, and relying on the lama. The first is that the preliminary part of a session is similar to what was said during the illusory body, except that even if you visualize the actual body of the root lama, you should visualize his appearance with disheveled hair, wearing six bone ornaments, and a tiger skin around his waist, etc., with the attire of a charnel ground. If you visualize Vajradhara, you should also visualize Vajradhara Heruka, a three-eyed deity who is both peaceful and wrathful, wearing eight charnel ground ornaments on his body. During the supplication, add the ending "Please grant the ability to seize the clear light." After that, temporarily visualize yourself as appearing normal, on the brain marrow below the skull, at the crown of the head, visualize a lotus and sun disc seat, about half the size of a broad bean. On top of that, visualize Vajra Nairatmya, matching the seat, with a blue body, holding a curved knife and skull cup, and a khatvanga, in a dancing posture with her left leg extended, a small body but with well-proportioned limbs. At her heart, visualize a white letter "Ah" (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Chinese literal meaning: Ah), as thin as if written with a fine brush, clear and shimmering, from which rays of light emanate. First, purify the head, which has the nature of dullness. Then, fill the inside of the body, making the flesh, blood, and bones pure, and visualize the body transforming into a light body. If you visualize it as the body of a yidam, then as the Kadampa good speech says, visualize it as glorious Chakrasamvara.

Practice the spontaneously born bliss. There, focus the mind on the A syllable in the heart of the Selfless Mother, and meditate slightly. Then, light radiates from that A syllable, filling the body of the Selfless Mother. From that, light radiates, making everything inside one's own body clear and bright, like raising a lamp in a dark room, and it radiates outward from the pores of one's own skin. Think that all appearances are clear and bright. In that same way, again, first focus the mind on the A syllable in the heart, and then meditate, spreading the light rays and so on. Focus the mind on the A syllable in the heart for a long time. After doing that several times, gently release the awareness into its natural state and let it rest. Repeat this and meditate constantly. At first, make effort for many days and meditate in this way. Sometimes, a comfortable, blissful state will arise spontaneously without any conceptual thoughts, and it will remain without any doubt. If that happens, it is enough to let it rest in that state. When that subsides, meditate with strong aspiration as before. When sleeping at night, focus the mind on the A syllable in the heart of the Selfless Mother and go to sleep. This is the forty-third meditation session. Second, relying on the A syllable: The preliminaries are the same as before. In the center of the body, which is visualized as one's own deity, visualize a white central channel as thick as an arrow shaft. Inside that, at the level of the navel or four fingers below the navel, visualize a white, clear, bright A syllable with the nature of light. Hold the mind on that A syllable for a moment. Light radiates from the A syllable, filling the inside of the central channel. From that, light radiates, making the inside of one's own body very clear. Light radiates from the pores of one's own skin. All appearances are pervaded with clarity and brightness. When sleeping, focus the mind on the A syllable below the navel. The other ways to practice are the same as before. This is the forty-fourth meditation session. Third, relying on the guru: Again, perform the preliminaries as before. On a lotus and moon seat in the heart of the body visualized as the supreme deity, if you visualize your root guru as Vajradhara, then Vajradhara's body is white, the same as usual. Even if you visualize him as his actual body, visualize his complexion as white and radiating white light, with a smiling face and gently closed eyes. The size of the body should be about four fingers high if large, or about the size of a thumb if small. In between
