Having diligently studied in all places. In Dhaṃgala, he received the Guhyasamāja empowerment from Paṇḍita Dharma Mitra and practiced meditation and recitation for seven years, but not even a good sign appeared. After ceasing meditation, he resided comfortably. One night, in a dream, a childless woman prophesied, "Go to the presence of glorious Nāropa." Thereafter, merely by requesting the Hevajra empowerment from Nāropa, excellent samādhi arose spontaneously. Meditating for six months, he saw the face of Hevajra. Again, he attended the great Nāropa for seven years, listening to countless tantras. In particular, he became renowned for his expertise in the Hevajra, Caturyoga, and the tantras of the arising of Tārā. In Magadha, during the reign of King Nyayapala, a Tirthika named Khasamadeva, who followed Īśvara, competed in abilities, drawing a mandala one cubit in the sky and placing a vase. The teacher scattered mustard seeds, causing the mandala to collapse and the vase to fall. The teacher placed an image of Tārā one tala high in the sky, and until the teacher himself withdrew it, the Tirthikas could not make it fall by any means, such as mantras and firearms. The teacher was victorious. The king invited him to Vikramaśīla to serve as a teacher expounding the Mother Tantras. This person saw the face of Tārā. Relying on the vidyā-mantra of Tārā, he performed activities of mutual subjugation, pacifying eight great conflicts. Kandhapa was a Buddhist yogi who appeared to be of very dull intellect. In reality, he requested the empowerment and blessings of the arising of Tārā from Nāropa. Meditating on the nine Heruka deities arising from this tantra and practicing for twelve years, he saw the faces of Heruka and Tārā. He attained siddhis, being able to travel a hundred yojanas in an instant. At that time, there was a Mongol king in the city of Delhi who was newly building a great palace. This teacher also stitched corpses and resided nearby. When the palace was completed, the corpse was torn into pieces and confessed, and as a result, the palace also collapsed from its foundations. This happened three times. The king heard of this and invited the teacher.

Thus. I prostrate at your feet, and made the four vows that arose from the words of the teacher. The four are: not to harm Buddhist temples, to abstain from killing those who dwell in the palace, to make offerings to the ordained, and to recite the names of the Buddhas and prostrate every day. Kandhari is the name of a corpse, and thereafter he was known as the Siddha Kandhapa. He benefited beings for a long time, and finally departed to the realm of the Dakinis with his very body. Also, Thaki Naganapa, Thaki means to make a living by various deceptive acts, and it is said to be a low caste of the borderlands. Naganana means great or powerful. Because the people of the Thaki caste are very strong, they were given such a name. This person also became a yogi, and requested the Hevajra from a disciple of Mitub Zawa (Invincible Moon), and meditated single-mindedly on a mountain called Nila in the south for fifteen years, but no signs appeared. So he made a vow to achieve it in another life, and jumped off a huge cliff. There, his body was not damaged, and a voice came from the sky saying: You will be taken care of by Naropa. After that, he relied on Naropa and requested the Hevajra initiation. (Naropa) said: Your Hevajra will not be accomplished, you must practice Chakrasamvara, so you must be given the Chakrasamvara initiation. He said to Guru Naropa: It is very difficult to request Chakrasamvara, because it requires eight times more offerings than other mandalas. At that time, I had neither offerings, nor the ability to listen to vast tantras anew because of my dullness. So (Naropa) gave the Tara initiation, and also gave the tantra, and completely gave the secret instructions of the union of Chakrasamvara father and mother, and by meditating single-mindedly, he attained supreme accomplishment. In front of the head of Naropa's great Ganachakra gathering, he came to prostrate, showed various miracles such as his body burning with flames and the earth shaking, and then disappeared. At that time, he did not benefit beings, so he was not included among the four main disciples of Naropa, later Abhayaka.
