The Golden Garland, Clarifying the Origins of the Tara Tantra. The Golden Garland, Clarifying the Origins of the Tara Tantra. Herein is the work entitled "The Golden Garland, Clarifying the Origins of the Tara Tantra." Om Svasti! Namo Guru! The Golden Garland, Clarifying the Origins of the Tara Tantra, I prostrate to the Guru! I prostrate to all dharmas, primordially free from elaboration! I prostrate to great compassion, pervading all phenomena! I prostrate to her who supremely liberates all beings! I prostrate to you, Tara, who has become the mother of the conquerors! Here, at the beginning of the exposition of the Tara Tantra, I will relate the history that is spoken of. In the past, in a time without beginning, in a world called "Various Lights," there appeared a Bhagavan Tathagata named Drum Sound. In his teaching, there was a king's daughter named Wisdom Moon, who was exceedingly respectful. She made offerings to that Buddha, together with his retinue of countless Shravakas and Bodhisattva Sangha, for hundreds of millions of billions of years. Each day, she arranged offerings equal in value to all the jewels filling the twelve yojanas in all ten directions without interruption. At the end of that, she generated the mind of enlightenment, and that was the first arising of the mind. At that time, the monks urged her, saying, "With this root of virtue, you have been born in this very body. If you make aspirations to work for the teachings, it will come to pass, so it is fitting to do so." Having heard these words of great gratitude, the king's daughter finally said, "Here there is no male nor female, no self, no person, nor consciousness. The imputation of male and female is truly absurd. The foolish minds of the world are utterly confused." She spoke such words and others. Those who desire enlightenment in a male form are many, but there are none who practice the benefit of beings in a female body. Therefore, until samsara is empty, I will perform the benefit of beings in a female form. Thus she vowed. Then, for hundreds of millions of billions of years, she remained in the royal palace,
