clearly explained the various types of tantras. Therefore, it was not as flourishing at that time as the collections of sayings, collections of knowledge, and collections of praises of Nagarjuna. Similarly, the Lamp Illuminating [Wisdom] was not composed and propagated when Chandrakirti was actually acting in the human realm. These teachings were transmitted from Nagarjuna's direct disciple, the teacher Nagabodhi, who attained the rainbow body of Vajra and resided on Mount Shri for the benefit of beings. Later, when the Mantrayana was manifestly practiced and propagated, these Dharma cycles also became prevalent in the human realm. Therefore, those fathers and sons (Nagarjuna and his sons) composed these treatises in ancient times and instructed that they should be propagated when disciples of these teachings appear in the future. Alternatively, it is also possible that when the disciples' time has come, the Vidyadhara's body itself composed these treatises and taught them to the fortunate ones. In any case, there is no dispute that they were composed by those fathers and sons. Relying on this path, many practitioners have attained supreme or common siddhis and reached high positions, and countless practitioners have obtained special qualities arising from meditation. All the great chariots who cherished the Buddha's teachings have utilized this Dharma to establish the foundation of explanation and practice. Therefore, it is an undisputed and supreme Dharma gate. In general, in this region, there are said to be about fifty Indian treatises based on this Dharma. The sadhana of Vajrasattva and others were composed with reference to Chandrakirti, and there are also many treatises and commentaries that refer to Aryadeva and Nagabodhi. The commentary on the Later Tantra, said to have been composed by Naropa, was composed by a Tibetan scholar, and so on. Other treatises and commentaries also have many good explanations, but they cannot be accepted as solely reliable. Among these, at this time, the treatise of the Fifth Stage will be explained. In Sanskrit: Pañcakrama. In Tibetan: Rimpa Nga Pa, which means Pañca is five and Krama is stage. That is, because there are five stages of the path to be explained, the treatise that explains it is also named after it. Homage to Manjushri Kumara! This is the
