Sapa'o. The third point is to introduce emptiness as without object of focus. The source is: In the Sutra Requested by Dhāraṇīśvara, it says: "That which is called emptiness is merely a synonym for the absence of manifest clinging and the absence of grasping." And in other sutras as well, it is said: "The ultimate truth is that in which there is no movement of mind, let alone letters." Wisdom is also combined with the wisdom that prevents characteristics in emptiness. In meditative equipoise, it is free from elaboration. It is free from extremes. It is non-conceptual. Even if one grasps it as emptiness, that itself is elaboration. It is falling into extremes. It is straying. For example, the actual experience of tasting the flavor of sugarcane and the like, and the conceptualization of the flavor of sugarcane as being such and such, are proven by experience to be completely different. Similarly, the absence of identification when looking directly at awareness, and the emptiness of understanding, are also manifestly proven to have different ways of experiencing. No matter how one grasps it with conceptualization, it is a sign that it does not correspond to the true nature. If one does not even grasp emptiness, what need is there to mention grasping onto something else? The mind cannot grasp anything in that which is naturally free from elaboration. The introduction of meditative experience is also to apply it to awareness without placing the meaning on understanding. When the emptiness that is examined by the mind is applied to experience to see whether it corresponds to mind, awareness, or appearance, the emptiness that is examined by the mind itself vanishes. Unlike the previous understanding, this very appearance-awareness is unidentifiable, naked, unspeakable, unthinkable, invisible, without acceptance, without abiding, without going, without coming, that is what one should repeatedly recite. Deciding through the gateway of possessing the three confidences, in the Dhāraṇī Entering Non-Conceptualization, it says: "Non-conceptualization is without form, unteachable, without support, without appearance, without discriminating consciousness, without a place." and so forth. The lama teaches through the gateway of scripture, reasoning, and instructions, and in the tantras it says: "Whoever grasps emptiness, devoid of immutability, those people grasp emptiness and look at emptiness." Although it comes from the early translation, separation must be explained as having the meaning of perversion. Whoever grasps emptiness, those people grasp emptiness and look at emptiness, will change.

Returning from non-existence. Thus it is said. In reality, the activity of sound-discrimination ceases, and one also experiences it oneself, so emptiness is without discrimination and without object. It is decided as free from elaboration and free from expression. End of the third introduction section. The fourth point is to show that these three stages of introduction are the unerring instruction and practice transmitted from the Buddha Shakyamuni. In the Sutra of the Thirty-Three, it is said: "Son of the gods, the three realms are only mind. That mind is formless, invisible, unobstructed, not a discriminator, like an illusion. Even if that mind is sought by the nature of mind, it cannot be found. The mind that seeks the mind, that mind cannot be found either. Because that mind is not found, all phenomena are not found." Thus it is said. The scriptural authority of the sutra is also quoted by the noble Asanga in the Compendium of Mahayana, saying: "Thus, knowing the mind within, one should realize that there is nothing to be grasped. After that, there is no grasper. After that, one should realize that there is no object." Thus it is said. The reason is that, as mentioned above, one should first meditate on the gross and easy to understand, and then meditate on the subtle and difficult to understand. The experience of meditation also corresponds to this. Deciding through the gate of having three confidences is also a kind of explanation of the previous ones. End of the fourth introduction section. Second, the scriptural authority for introducing the wisdom of subsequent attainment as being like an illusion is: In the Prajnaparamita Sutra, it is said: "Son of the gods, all phenomena are like illusions, like dreams." At the end of such immensity, it is said, "Even nirvana is like a dream, like an illusion, what need is there to mention other phenomena?" Thus it is said. "Son of the gods, if I had another dharma that was superior to nirvana, I would say that it was like a dream, like an illusion." Thus it is said. Hevajra says: "All are like the moon in water, the yogini of desire should know." Thus it is said. Maitreya also says: "Afflictions are like clouds, actions are like enjoyments in a dream, the ripening of afflictions and actions, the aggregates are like illusions and emanations." Thus it is said. The reason is that the various conventional appearances, when appearing and being experienced, are the appearances of terms.
