Sa. This metaphor is established upon the ten aspects of the clear light Dzogchen. The appearance of the mind is merely born from one's own mind, like a reflection in a mirror. As it is said, one's own experience, through the three trusts in the Lama, the lineage, and one's own nature, determines all external appearances as the mind. This is the first part, the introduction. The second point is to introduce the nature of the mind as emptiness. The scripture comes from the 'Arya Jewel Heap Sutra, Questioned by Dipamkara': In this way, completely search for the mind. What are the phenomena of attachment, hatred, and ignorance? Are they future, past, or present? Regarding this, the past mind has ceased, the future mind has not yet come, and the present mind has no abiding place. Dipamkara, the mind is not inside, nor is it outside, nor is it seen outside of both. Thus it is said. If wisdom is introduced in terms of understanding reasoning, then rely on the reasoning that universally establishes all conventionalities as without inherent existence, and especially the reasoning that establishes the mind as emptiness, thereby generating certainty. If one merely believes in its essence, then, as the meaning of the sutra quoted above, divide wisdom into the three aspects of momentary arising, abiding, and ceasing, and search for them. The past has already ceased and is gone, the future has not yet arisen and is not present, and even the present is examined. Apart from the past and future, there is no present. Furthermore, the mind does not abide in the inner sense organs, nor does it abide in the outer objects, nor does it abide in between the two. It does not abide in the nature of the five outer objects and the five inner sense organs, etc., nor does it abide elsewhere. The mind cannot be said to exist in this way, nor can it be said to be experienced or known in this way, nor can it be grasped as not existing in this way. Establishing it as existing also depends on establishing it as not existing, and establishing it as not existing also depends on establishing it as existing. Therefore, existence and non-existence, being and non-being, cannot be established in any way. In profound meditative equipoise, one repeatedly contemplates in this way. Because it is not existent, the term non-existence is also established during subsequent discrimination. It is also impossible for both to be the case, and it is also impossible for the nature of neither to be the case. Therefore, the reality of conventional truth

Thus is the principle of emptiness. Regarding the introduction of meditative experience, it is to allow awareness to rest in its unadulterated, original state, with both action and bondage present. The power of awareness does not diminish, and whatever arises—whether it be the movement of seeing, hearing, feeling, or thinking, or meditation itself—at the moment of its arising, one should nakedly indicate, with the wisdom of introspection, its location, place, form, and essence. To introduce self and other, place and the possessor of place, matter and awareness, the experienced and the experiencer, the knowable and the knower—all as being primordially pure from the beginning, without any alteration, and to nakedly introduce the way of abiding and protecting. Generate certainty through the gate of possessing the three confidences. Some say that if this mind is not examined, it will appear in various ways. If pursued and chased, it cannot be found, like an illusion. Introducing emptiness in this way, although relying on the aspect of superior seeing, is very likely to resemble wisdom born of thought. Therefore, at this time of cutting off the pursuit of conceptual thought, it is neither necessary nor capable. Others introduce the state of non-conceptual, mindless blankness as reality, but this is because they have not seen reality and have nothing to introduce. As it is said in the King of Tantras: When one's own mind is overwhelmed by fainting and sleep, the lord of men becomes devoid of self-nature. When awake, one should make the self-nature clear, for this is not the path to liberation for sentient beings. Thus it is said. The latter statement also prohibits introducing appearance itself or this very thing as reality. Thus, the lama, through the gate of scripture, reasoning, and pith instructions, shows that all of this—mind, mental events, memory, awareness, and movement—although the aspect of appearance does not cease, has never existed from the beginning. All sutras and tantras also say the same, and the King of Tantras also says: There is no consciousness, it does not abide in the wisdom of the Buddhas, this word shows the Buddhas. Thus it is said. Also, through one's own experience, one arrives at certainty in non-attachment. The meaning of this clear, naked awareness is nothing else. Whatever one does, there is no attachment; whatever appears, there is no reliance; whatever characteristic one grasps, there is no differentiation. One must protect oneself in this state. By protecting in this way, one decides that the nature of mind is emptiness through the three confidences in the lama, the tantra, and oneself. Second part of the introduction.
