would lead to error. It is also impossible for attachment and the like to exist before the mind-essence does not exist; if it did, attachment and the like would become causeless. Attachment and the like also do not arise without mind; if they did, then flowers would grow even from the sky, because arising without one's own place is the same. It is not the case that impurity and mind, whether they are of the same or different essence, are inseparable; if they were, then liberation from impurity would be impossible. Therefore, mind and attachment, like gold and rust, once one is formed, the other is also formed, so they are always together, but since impurity is never the essence of mind, even if impurity is abandoned, mind itself will not be exhausted; the mind that has abandoned impurity will be liberated. For example, the mere substance of iron or copper, and its black or red color, and the characteristics of being hard and solid, always accompany each other from the beginning and appear inseparable, but the mere substance of iron and copper is not their essence, so when it is smelted with the essence of alchemy, the black or red color is no longer beautiful, and the hard and solid substance diminishes, but the substance of iron and copper itself does not diminish; it becomes pure gold with a beautiful color and a soft nature. In this way, both entering and returning from samsara are reasonable. The second point is to explain the reason why samsara can enter and return. To briefly explain the arrangement of entering samsara: the four bindus mentioned above are the nature of reality, and the adventitious impurities like rust of that very nature are the habitual tendencies of the four states, and all the phenomena of samsara arise from them. That is, the clear light of the mind's own nature is the alaya-jnana, the indestructible bindu, the indestructible, the clear light, and what is indicated by the symbol of the short A (Tibetan: ཨ་ཐུང་). In the Glorious Stainless Light it is said: "Here, what dwells in the heart of beings is wisdom. It is the indestructible sound, always the characteristic of nada." What is said here to dwell in the heart means to dwell in the essence, which is the meaning of the nature of reality. It dwells in the essence of the four bindus and the eight qualities, and due to the interdependence, the adventitious

The nature of the co-emergent Alaya-vijñana is sometimes also called the great fundamental ignorance. If this is distinguished, there are habits of the four states, etc. From its self-appearance, the appearances and discriminations of the four states will appear. From the three of darkness, dust, and mental strength, the eight qualities of sound, touch, taste, form, and smell will arise. From these, the realms, aggregates, sense bases, and karma will arise. The vehicle of that wisdom is the wind of wisdom that is inseparable from its essence. The vehicle of the fundamental ignorance is also the subtle wind. This fundamental ignorance together with the wind is sometimes also called wisdom and its wind, just as the name of the fruit is given to the sprout of the fruit. The necessity of doing so is to determine the Suchness with defilements, just as it is necessary to understand the reality of the fruit that is inseparable from the sprout. The words of the great accomplished Yumo and other superiors say that from the fundamental ignorance, two kinds of winds with the characteristic of wind arise, of which the wind of joy produces the fourth state, and the co-emergent wind produces the three states of wakefulness, dream, and deep sleep. It is not meant that the wind of material phenomena arises from ignorance, but that it itself exists in the nature of the wind, and from the point of view of being wind, the discriminations of the four states arise. From that arise the ten winds, from that arise the twelve winds of the seasons, and these hold the five sense objects, the five sense consciousnesses, and the mental consciousness that follows them, and the afflicted mind that focuses on the self, and the endless discriminations that follow the two minds will increase. Furthermore, that wisdom is the essence of the three winds of white, red, and black, the Dharma nature, therefore, the fundamental ignorance in the form of its defilement also exists in the nature of the three subtle winds of white, red, and black, and is the seed for producing the gross ones. Just as that wisdom is all-pervasive in all that is stable and moving, so too is the fundamental ignorance the basis and foundation of all cyclic phenomena, and is pervasive in all illusory appearances, but for the time being, for each sentient being, it corresponds to their respective appearances.
