What else is needed? That is because, rather than teaching disciples who fill the land with great people, and giving Dharma talks to hundreds of thousands of monks, if there arises one who is certain to walk the path as spoken of in the tantras, then even gathering Vajra Yoginis individually and meditating together for one session, through whichever of the three gatherings, one can attain realization more quickly. Generally, all that obstructs virtue is Mara, and all that promotes virtue is the power of the Buddha, although one might say that, if one abandons small inner virtues and immediately engages in great deeds, merely preventing small virtues is not Mara. If one transforms from the definitive meaning and engages in the provisional meaning, and so forth, preventing great virtues and engaging in small virtues, although clinging to small virtues is merely virtue, one should recognize that it is the work of Mara. Therefore, those Maras who obstruct the Dharma of oneself and others will transform into the forms of fully enlightened Buddhas, the forms of Bodhisattvas, fathers, mothers, daughters, sisters, sons, brothers, and objects of desire and attachment such as concubines, and so forth, transforming into uncertain forms, obstructing the practice of the correct path. Actually manifesting is also possible, but mostly it is through the power blessed by Mara. Therefore, disciples should cherish this precious and excellent path bestowed by the precious Lama, and like robbers disguised as close relatives, recognize their own home, relatives, afflictions, distractions, evil teachers, sinful deeds, and all the works of Mara, completely abandon them, and through mindfulness and awareness, diligently guard and cultivate the wisdom of meditation experience very well. That is what was said. Regarding the aspects of vows and precepts, if one speaks in terms of the terminology of Secret Mantra itself, vows and precepts can be considered synonymous, or, regarding abandoning what should be abandoned as vows, and regarding upholding what should be practiced as precepts, some say that, or the two are reversed, although the names are different, there is no contradiction in meaning. In the Sutra tradition, although one has not heard of using the term "vow" to refer to precepts, the meaning of a vow is that it should not be transgressed, therefore precepts are vow.

In short, the fourteen root downfalls here are: If one commits a root downfall due to hypocrisy and deceit, one will fall into hell, and these are sufferings! Etc., the words of the tantras clearly state this. The first root downfall is displeasing the Vajra Master. A special case is that if the master is not pleased with one's own virtuous deeds, it will not become a root downfall. The fault of displeasing the master exists, but the virtuous deed itself also has benefits, so it is a mixture of black and white. There is also a special case where it becomes a root downfall, that is, originally one should have entered a great virtuous deed, but because of breaking the vow, one entered a lower and smaller virtuous deed. If this displeases the master, it is a root downfall. The second is to go against the master's instructions, that is, to break the master's instructions that are not related to sin. Among them, if one breaks the unpredicted instructions, it belongs to the lighter root downfall; if one breaks the virtuous words, it is very serious. If one breaks the non-virtuous words, there is no root downfall. If one does not eliminate the displeasure through confession, there is only the fault of disobeying the instructions. These two are the downfalls that depend on the Vajra Master, so the sin is great and difficult to confess. The third is: depending on the Dharma of Secret Mantra, the Vajra brothers of the same master, committing sins against them, because it is an inner vow. This is also a serious sin and difficult to confess. The fourth is: although it is said to abandon love, it is actually abandoning loving-kindness, compassion, and Bodhicitta. If one abandons love forever, or abandons love towards one sentient being, it will also become a root downfall, as explained in other root downfall treatises. The fifth and fourth are both included in the fourth of this treatise. The fifth here is: not believing in unchanging bliss, thinking that melting bliss and immutability are unnecessary, thereby deliberately harming innate Bodhicitta. The sixth is: slandering the inner Buddhist school with hatred. The seventh is: revealing the uncommon secrets of Secret Mantra to those who have not received empowerment or do not believe. The eighth is: without the need to accomplish the special qualities of the deity, etc., denigrating one's own body as impure, thereby creating suffering from cutting off limbs to getting sick, etc. The ninth is: thinking that all phenomena of conventional truth are originally empty, and the ultimate reality
