If ‘Kunzhi’ (Tibetan: ཀུན་གཞི་, Wylie: kun gzhi, Alaya-vijñana, the base) and ‘Kada’ (Tibetan: ཀ་དག་, Wylie: ka dag, Primordial Purity) are not the same, which one appears first? If ‘Kada’ appears first, then ‘Kada’ exists first, and then the nature of ‘Kunzhi’ arises, which is not reasonable in terms of logic. Because ‘Kunzhi’ is the original nature that does not fall into Samsara and Nirvana, and there is nothing before it. If ‘Kunzhi’ appears first, then there will be no ‘Kada’ and ‘Original Liberation’. Therefore, ‘Kada’ is just a replacement of the Bon terminology, initially considered ‘originally non-existent’, and then slightly existent, it is named ‘ignorance, the basis of the delusion of Samsara.’ To this statement, I reply: You do not understand the meaning, only because you have heard too little and have not distinguished the various aspects of ‘Kunzhi’. Generally, there are three types of ‘Kunzhi’: the aspect of ‘Kunzhi’ Dharmadhatu, the ‘union’ meaning of ‘Kunzhi’, and the ‘Kunzhi’ of various habits. The first is Dharmadhatu as it is, which is established from the aspect of not distinguishing Samsara and Nirvana, which is called ‘Kunzhi of original meaning’. ‘Kunzhi’ is the basis of all things, the basis of Samsara and Nirvana. The second is the ‘union’ meaning of ‘Kunzhi’, which refers to the aspect of wisdom being naturally present and spontaneously accomplished on or in this state, which is considered the ‘union’ meaning of ‘Kunzhi’. Its essence is emptiness, its nature is luminosity, great compassion is pervasive and manifest, its qualities are naturally accomplished like precious jewels, without defilement, not separate from defilement, originally luminous, the meaning of Dharmakaya and wisdom inseparable, is the meaning of the nature. That is to say, from the aspect of self-nature purity, it is like space, without characteristics, without aspirations, it is emptiness, not artificial, etc., although it can be called by various names, but it is not a nihilistic emptiness where nothing exists, but it has the characteristics of Dharmakaya and wisdom and other qualities naturally accomplished. Because it is not contaminated by the faults of Samsara, it is pure and empty from the beginning. The *Ghanavyuha Sutra* says: ‘Like the full moon, with the changes of the seasons, the world will think that the moon has waxing and waning. Similarly, the Kunzhi of meaning, constantly has the Tathagatagarbha. The Tathagata revealed that essence with the name of Kunzhi. Ordinary people who do not understand that essence, due to the power of habits, think that Kunzhi has various feelings such as happiness and suffering, and various afflictions such as karma. Its self-nature is pure, without defilement, its qualities are like wish-fulfilling jewels, it will not change or transform, and complete understanding of these can achieve liberation.’ This speaks of --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Its aspects also have many names: In terms of function, it is called 'Meaningful Alaya'. Initially, it is called 'Primordial Dharmadhatu Virtue'. It is also named 'Tathagatagarbha' (如来藏, The Womb of the Thus-Come One), 'Luminosity of Mind Nature', 'Dharmadhatu' (法界, The Realm of Dharma), the meaning of 'Suchness', 'Self-Purified Tathata' (自性清净之如来性, The Thusness of Self-Purification), 'Prajnaparamita' (般若波罗蜜多, The Perfection of Wisdom), etc. From the perspective of the basis, source, and removal, it is established as inconceivable. This is the basis of separation or the liberation point of Samantabhadra (普贤, The All-Good). Therefore, 'Primordial Purity' refers to the self-nature purity that has never been confused, and 'Primordial Liberation' has the same meaning. Third, the Alaya of various habits: Based on it (Tathagatagarbha), due to ignorance, it becomes the basis for samsaric dharmas, the place where the eight consciousnesses and their habits rely, hence it is called 'Alaya of Various Habits'. Why is it said so? Because it provides a basis for accumulating virtuous, non-virtuous, liberating, purifying actions, and things that are originally non-existent but newly produced. Both of these (virtuous and non-virtuous) rely on it, and its essence is ignorance, so it is unindicated. Some say that this is not ignorance because it is the basis of the five poisons and also the basis of purification, which is a manifestation of not understanding its meaning. Here, it does not refer to ignorance divided into the five poisons, but another name for co-emergent ignorance. As for being the basis of purification, it needs to be examined: Primordial purity, and all newly arisen defilements are purified, this double purity is not the basis of the wisdom and essence of the Buddha. Because the Alaya must be transformed into wisdom. As the 'Four Skandhas Sutra' says: 'The purification of Alaya is the Dharmadhatu.' The 'Golden Light Sutra' says: 'The transformation of Alaya is the Svabhavikakaya (自性法身, The Body of Essence).' Therefore, it is not the basis of the 'Dhatu' (界, Element), just as a lamp attached to a tree trunk will burn the tree trunk, and a flame attached to firewood will burn the firewood. Relying on the Alaya, through the two accumulation paths, one can self-purify the habits of samsara, eliminate the defilements of lineage and 'Dhatu', and manifest the initial state as it is, thereby attaining Bodhi, hence it is called 'Condition Purity'. Afterwards, the antidote for purification will also be burned because it is conceptual virtue. As the 'Entering the Middle Way' says: ' ज्ञानस्य दाह्यो न भूयो ऽस्ति काष्ठम्' (Tibetan: ཤེས་བྱའི་བུད་ཤིང་སྐམ་པོ་མ་ལུས་དག །, Sanskrit Devanagari: ज्ञानस्य दाह्यो न भूयो ऽस्ति काष्ठम्, Sanskrit Romanization: jñānasya dāhyo na bhūyo 'sti kāṣṭham, Literal Chinese meaning: The fire of wisdom burns all the dry firewood). Thus, how to understand 'non-abandoning emptiness' and 'thirty-seven factors of enlightenment'? Although the dharmas included in the Buddhahood exist as the result of separation... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
