If someone asks, 'Does nothing exist?' This is said from the perspective of consciousness. For example, in a dream, whatever appears, good or bad, is true in the dream. But when awakened, the dream is not true. Therefore, the Buddha used the metaphors of dreams and illusions to illustrate the unreality of all phenomena. Until the illusions held by consciousness disappear, there is still acceptance and rejection, and the cause and effect of good and bad karma will appear without falsehood. However, when illusions disappear and the wisdom of realizing the truth arises, these phenomena no longer appear. Because there is no apprehending or apprehended consciousness, all phenomena, including the conventional and the ultimate, do not appear. This is the true intention of the Buddha and his disciples, and it is also the state that naturally exists in the hearts of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. The views of the great commentators who explain the profound ultimate meaning are also consistent with this. The venerable Nagarjuna said: 'For example, sleep and the influence of sleep cause people to see children, women, palaces, and dwellings, etc. But when awakened, they are not seen. Similarly, conventional knowledge, when the eye of wisdom opens and is freed from the sleep of ignorance, is not seen when awakened.' 'Similarly, when the wise destroy all the habits of ignorance with the sun of wisdom, they do not see the mind, mental factors, and objects.' The *Madhyamakāvatāra* also says: 'Just as the illusions of a person with cataracts do not harm the vision of a person without cataracts, the afflictions eliminated by pure wisdom do not harm pure wisdom.' Shantideva said: 'As long as the conditions are gathered, illusions will appear. When the conditions are cut off, they will not appear even in the conventional. When illusions do not exist, what will observe the conventional?' Therefore, in the Great Perfection, the wisdom of the equality of view and action is integrated into the state of great equality. At the ground level, wisdom knows that the conventional is false, so it does not hope for conditioned virtues and does not add anything to wisdom. Since there is acceptance and rejection in the transformation of consciousness, it does not slander the means. On the path, all mental activities do not go beyond conceptual thought, so there is nothing to be cultivated. At the fruition, when the mind and mental factors completely cease, to whom will the conventional appear? This state is not included in the former and latter turnings of the wheel of Dharma. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding the ultimate profound meaning, in the sacred land (འཕགས་པའི་ཡུལ།, India) and the land of snow (གངས་ཅན།, Tibet), those who uphold the undefiled teachings of the Sugata (བདེ་བར་གཤེགས་པ།, Tathagata) have perfectly elucidated it. This is as stated in the writings of all the learned scholars from Ngok Lotsawa (རྔོག་ལོ་ཆེན་པོ།, Ngok Lotsawa) to Jowo (ཇོ་བོ།, Jowo), and all the unerring meditators. In general, our teacher (Shakyamuni Buddha), considering the level of consciousness of sentient beings, merely demonstrated the principles of acceptance and rejection, and cause and effect, in the realm of dreams, and how the cause and effect in dreams become a measure. Therefore, people mistakenly believe that the Buddha's wisdom is a conventional measure and develop a mistaken attachment to the direction of practice, leading to a separation of the wisdom of the saints and the wisdom of the Buddha. This causes people to not even believe in the profound Madhyamaka view. These individuals have turned the great activities of the Sugata into mere ornaments of Vijnanavada. If one does not think of anything during meditation, it becomes the meditation of Heshang (ཧཱ་ཤང་།, Heshang). What you consider to be a great Madhyamaka treatise, such as Acharya Bhāviveka's (སློབ་དཔོན་བྷ་བྱ།, Acharya Bhāviveka) 'Madhyamakaratnapradīpa' (དབུ་མ་རིན་ཆེན་སྒྲོན་མེ།, Madhyamakaratnapradīpa), states: 'Do not discriminate about anything, do not grasp anything, abandon all memory and attention.' and so on, which is explained in detail. This is also consistent with Kamalaśīla's (ཀཱ་མ་ལ་ཤཱི་ལ།, Kamalaśīla) three 'Bhāvanākramas' (སྒོམ་རིམ།, Bhāvanākrama), which is well-known in Svatantrika Madhyamaka. Jowo's 'Madhyamaka Bhāvanākrama' also says the same. Although this is similar to Heshang's view, they have already admitted that it is not the same. Dzogchen (རྫོགས་ཆེན།, Dzogchen) identifies the primordial liberation (ཡེ་གྲོལ།, Ye Drol) of self-arisen awareness (རང་བྱུང་རིག་པ།, Rangjung Rigpa), the essence of Vipassanā (ལྷག་མཐོང་།, Lhagthong) that is free from acceptance and rejection, as individual self-realized wisdom, and uses it as the basis for meditation. By abiding in the Dharmata (ཆོས་ཉིད།, Chosnyid) that is free from conceptualization and attachment, one abides without error in the state of non-conceptual wisdom, which is the great state of natural liberation. As the 'Thalgyur' (ཐལ་འགྱུར།, Thalgyur) says: 'The limit of the Great Perfection of self-nature, all phenomena abide in their own place, appearance and awareness, Dharmata are in union, primordial liberation is instantly accomplished. The realm beyond mind and consciousness, the realm of pure self-nature with signs, the realm of emptiness and essence liberation, the realm of cessation of movement and non-conceptualization, the realm of cessation of mind and beyond thought.' Because of not understanding this way, merely expecting to attain Vipassanā through conceptual proliferation, one does not touch the meaning of true Dharmata. Without transforming the flow of mind and mental factors, one abides in emptiness through conceptualization. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
