The virtuous teacher who possesses all the qualities, attend to him with the three kinds of pleasing actions, and avoid doing anything displeasing even for a moment. Be skilled in properly studying his intentions and conduct, and take on the branch of accomplishing whatever he says as an order. Therefore, combine the teachings with the disciple's disposition, who possesses faith, renunciation, compassion, sharp faculties, great intelligence, and asceticism. Do not bestow teachings that are incompatible with the vessel; the method of gradually guiding those with compatible intelligence is: First, distance yourself from places of busyness, go to a secluded place, and abandon worldly affairs. Sit comfortably, straighten your body, expel impure air, Pray to the Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha), generate devotion to the guru, Establish mindfulness and contemplate in this way: This human body adorned with leisure and endowments is extremely difficult to find, like the Udumbara flower. If one is skilled in the method of taking its essence, then this attainment is more significant than a wish-fulfilling jewel. Therefore, at all times and in all circumstances, Rely on virtuous friends and virtuous companions, Abandon this life for the sake of the next, If you do not quickly strive to take the essence, Conditioned things are impermanent, like the rising and setting of the sun and moon, There is no certainty when death will come, like lightning in the sky. At the time of death, if it is not Dharma, nothing will be of benefit, Therefore, practice the sacred Dharma properly. The root of practicing the Dharma is cause and effect, Negative actions lead to the three lower realms (hell, hungry ghosts, animals), Positive actions lead to higher realms and liberation. Therefore, confess sins and restrain yourself from the heart, Effortfully take on the root of virtue. Purify the sins of the body with prostrations and circumambulations, Clear away the obscurations of speech with recitations and reading scriptures, Pacify the faults of the mind with prayers to the Three Jewels, Always train properly in mindfulness and awareness. Especially, in order to accomplish the state of liberation, Know that all of samsara is like a pit of fire, a forest of razors, Like a forest of swords, and with mindfulness, Generate the strong and unfeigned wish to quickly escape from the three sufferings. Whenever you realize that all worldly prosperity, Is impermanent, unstable, and deceptive, There will be no occasion to generate attachment even to the glory of Brahma and Indra (two deities in Buddhism). Thereafter, the Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha), the root guru, the assembly of deities, and Dharma protectors, Having certainty that they are unfailing and ultimate refuges, In order to liberate oneself and others from the fears of samsara, Take refuge with reverence until enlightenment (Bodhi). Judging by your own experience, for those beings who have not been transformed, In order for them to have happiness and be free from suffering, Loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity, Generate the mind of enlightenment (Bodichitta) that aspires with the four immeasurables. For the sake of others, with the mind solely seeking perfect enlightenment, Offer the body and all enjoyments... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Release like grass, in the face of fearful dangers, breathe out the breath of refuge. Practice Dharma yourself, and encourage others to do the same. With a mind longing to renounce, with an utterly pure intention. Guard the three doors of body, speech, and mind, restraining even the slightest misdeeds. Accumulate as much wholesome merit as possible, both with outflows and without. Dedicate all of it to the benefit of sentient beings. So that you are never overwhelmed by harmful circumstances. Cultivate patience with mindfulness, subduing the fault of anger. For the sake of the Dharma, gladly endure all hardships. In profound emptiness, have no fear whatsoever. With courage awakened towards virtue. Don the armor of diligence, unwavering in the conduct of Bodhi. Day and night, engage in tireless effort. If you can accomplish the benefit of others, abandon weariness. With a peaceful mind, contemplate intently. Taking worldly meditation as a foundation. Diligently cultivate Samadhi (concentration) together with Vipassana (insight). Thus, you will enter the realm of the Tathagatas (Buddhas). With the wisdom that discriminates the Dharma. First, through hearing, bring the Dharma into words. In the middle, through thinking, seek the truth of its meaning. Finally, through meditation, realize the essence of its meaning. Having matured your own mind-stream, gather disciples through generosity. Please their minds with kind words, establish trust through consistent actions. For both temporary and ultimate benefits. May you fully enjoy the glory of benefit and happiness. Take upon yourself the suffering of all sentient beings. Give your own happiness and virtue to all six realms of beings. Cultivate compassion and Bodhicitta (mind of enlightenment) that cannot be swayed by circumstances. Especially, all the objects grasped by external clinging. Are not real, but appear like illusions. Though not permanent, they can still function. Though not singular, they arise and change in various ways. Without autonomy, they follow after karma. Not atomic, nor composed of indivisible particles. If composed of particles, they could not form gross objects. If divisible, it contradicts the vow of indivisibility. Therefore, all is merely an unreal appearance, a dependent arising. View it like a dream, an illusion, a reflection of the moon in water. Like a mirage city, like a rainbow. Even the mind that sees has no self or self-ownership. This 'self' is neither a separate entity from the aggregates, Nor is it one with the five aggregates. If the former, it would become a real entity separate from the aggregates. If the latter, the aggregates are impermanent, and the 'self' is permanent, which is contradictory. Therefore, it is merely based on the five aggregates. Due to the clinging to self, it is merely labeled as such. The conceptual thought that labels it, the past one has ceased. The future one is unborn, the present one cannot be found. In short, both selves, together with the basis of grasping and the grasped. Are peaceful like space, knowing that they are unborn. Yet, even this unbornness is beyond the realm of the mind. Omniscience is also exhausted by words.
