‘The head will be split into a hundred pieces,’ accompanied by fierce mantras, mustard seeds, musical instruments, etc., discarding the Torma (offering) with fierce intimidation, which is purification through fierce means. Purification of Sins: Arrange sesame seeds and clean water in front of the support (Buddha statue, etc.). Visualize that all the sins of the deceased, in the form of a black ‘Kam’ (Tibetan: ཀཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: क, Sanskrit Romanization: kaṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Kam), emerge from the nostrils and transform into the form of sins, merging into the sesame seeds. Burn the sesame seeds on the fire on the left and right, then throw them into the water, reciting: ‘Om, Sarva, Papa, Dahana, Bhasmim, Kuru, Ye, Svaha.’ (Tibetan: ཨཱོྃ་སརྦ་པཱ་པཾ་ད་ཧ་ན་བྷསྨིཾ་ཀུ་རུ་ཡེ་སྭཱ་ཧཱ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: ॐ सर्व पापं दहन भस्मिं कुरु ये स्वाहा, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ sarva pāpaṃ dahana bhasmiṃ kuru ye svāhā, Chinese literal meaning: Om, burn all sins, make them ashes, accomplish, Svaha.) Visualize that all sins are purified by the fire and water of wisdom. Then, sprinkle sand and white mustard seeds while reciting purification mantras, and recite the ‘Kam’ (Tibetan: ཀཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: क, Sanskrit Romanization: kaṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Kam) syllable, the Hundred Syllable Mantra, the Kunrig Mantra, etc., as well as: ‘Om, Daha, Daha, Sarva, Naraka, Gate, He, Tum, Hum, Phat.’ (Tibetan: ཨཱོྃ་ད་ཧ་ད་ཧ་སརྦ་ན་ར་ཀ་ག་ཏེ་ཧེ་ཏུཾ་ཧཱུྃ་ཕཊ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: ॐ दह दह सर्व नरक गते हे तुं हुं फट्, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ daha daha sarva naraka gate he tuṃ hūṃ phaṭ, Chinese literal meaning: Om, burn, burn, all hells, go, hey, tum, hum, phat.), ‘Om, Paca, Paca, Sarva, Preta, Gate, He, Tum, Hum, Phat.’ (Tibetan: ཨཱོྃ་པ་ཙ་པ་ཙ་སརྦ་པྲེ་ཏ་ཀ་ག་ཏེ་ཧེ་ཏུཾ་ཧཱུྃ་ཕཊ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: ॐ पच पच सर्व प्रेत गते हे तुं हुं फट्, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ paca paca sarva preta gate he tuṃ hūṃ phaṭ, Chinese literal meaning: Om, cook, cook, all hungry ghosts, go, hey, tum, hum, phat.), ‘Om, Matha, Matha, Sarva, Tiryak, Gate, He, Tum, Hum, Phat.’ (Tibetan: ཨཱོྃ་མ་ཐ་མ་ཐ་སརྦ་ཏིཪྻ་ཀ་ག་ཏེ་ཧེ་ཏུཾ་ཧཱུྃ་ཕཊ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: ॐ मथ मथ सर्व तिर्यक् गते हे तुं हुं फट्, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ matha matha sarva tiryak gate he tuṃ hūṃ phaṭ, Chinese literal meaning: Om, stir, stir, all animals, go, hey, tum, hum, phat.), visualize that all sins and obscurations dissolve like frost melting in the sun. Bathing: First, manifest the image of the mandala and other supports on the surface of a mirror, and then perform the bathing, such as the ‘Like the Tathagata was Born’ ritual, and recite: ‘The body, speech, and mind of the Buddhas, have no defilements of afflictions, to purify the three doors of the deceased, bathe them with pure water.’ (Tibetan: ཨཱོྃ་སརྦ་ཏ་ཐཱ་ག་ཏ་ཨ་བྷི་ཥེ་ཀ་ཏ་ས་མ་ཡ་ཤྲཱི་ཧཱུྃ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: ॐ सर्व तथागत अभिषेकत समय श्री हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ sarva tathāgata abhiṣekata samaya śrī hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Om, all Tathagatas, empowerment, vow, auspicious, Hum.) ‘With incomparable and wonderful garments, wipe their bodies with clean and fragrant scents.’ (Tibetan: དེ་དག་སྐུ་ལ་མཚུངས་པ་མེད་པའི་གོས། །གཙང་ལ་དྲིའི་རབ་བསྒོས་པས་སྐུ་ཕྱི་འོ། །) Recite: ‘Om, Hum, Tram, Hrih, Ah, Kaya, Vishodhana, Svaha.’ Wipe the body. Pour the bathing water back into the vase and use it to wipe the nameplate and other supports, reciting: ‘Pure and clear water of the gods, pleasant and fragrant source of the Ganges, with the water of the hand-seal wisdom vase, purify the obscurations of the deceased.’ Furthermore, ‘This is the water of the nature of generosity, which can purify the stains of stinginess, well-mixed with the fragrance of generosity, perform this excellent act of bathing.’ Similarly, in the place of generosity, successively replace with: discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, wisdom. In the place of stinginess, successively replace with: broken vows, anger, laziness, distraction, and wrong wisdom. In each interval of replacement, recite the dharani mantra and perform the bathing accompanied by musical instruments. Purification of Poisons: Wipe the support with the water from the vase, reciting: ‘The three poisons of attachment, aversion, and ignorance, are the three poisons of the world, the Buddha, the Bhagavan, has no poisons, purify the poisons with the truth of the Buddha.’ Similarly, also apply to the Three Jewels of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
