When a disciple focuses their mind on the letter ཨཱཿ (Tibetan, अ, a, unborn), a near-attainment wisdom like the darkness of night appears. If one becomes accustomed to this, the samadhi of bliss and emptiness without thought will manifest, and ultimately the mind will achieve perfect solitude. The third stage is the sequence of the illusory body: Visualize a clear white ཨ་ (Tibetan, अ, a, unborn) in the center of your heart. From this letter, rays of light emanate, pervading the entire inner and outer body, thereby purifying all obscurations. Visualize the wisdom body formed from wind and mind alone, as the white Vajrasattva, holding a vajra and bell, adorned with silks and precious jewels, with legs crossed in the vajra posture, seated on a lion throne, lotus, sun, and moon cushion, residing within a swirling expanse of five-colored wisdom light, appearing like a water moon or rainbow, visualize it as clear but without inherent existence. Focus on this, and visualize the three channels and four chakras within the body clearly, focusing the mind on the white letter ཨ་ (Tibetan, अ, a, unborn) in the center of the crown chakra. From this letter, rays of light arise, pervading all appearances of oneself and the external world, so that everything appears but is without inherent existence, like illusions, dreams, or water moons. Visualize the deity's body and all appearances and existence as the nature of pure and vast realms, and meditate with one-pointed concentration. If clear appearances arise, abandon attachment to them, and to enhance the meditation, hold the vase breath in the crown chakra, and rest in a state of non-conceptualization. Knowing that everything is illusory, engage in the conduct of a yogi who is not afraid, such as jumping from heights, without clinging to reality. Through such practice, the samadhi will gradually become stable, and the wisdom of the illusory mudra of wind and mind will be accomplished. One branch of this is to bring dreams onto the path. Visualize a red letter ཨ་ (Tibetan, अ, a, unborn) in the center of the throat chakra, hold the vase breath in the throat, and gather the wind and mind there. Maintain the awareness that all of this is a dream. Before going to sleep, practice visualization and wind exercises, and finally, generate a strong intention to definitely catch the dream tonight, then fall asleep in a state of non-thought. Through such practice, if you can catch the dream at will, then just like daytime meditation, visualize the deity's body as an illusory body in the dream, and finally dissolve it into the non-conceptual realm, and rest in equanimity. If, after dissolving into the realm of reality, you can stably arise as the illusory body of the deity, and gradually practice manifesting various forms, transforming into other things, etc., when the skill is well-mastered, the liberation of the illusory-like samadhi will be stable day and night, thereby influencing all of samsara and nirvana. The fourth stage is the sequence of clear light: Visualize your base body as the form of Vajrasattva or Heruka, and within the body, visualize ཨ་བ་དྷཱ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the center of the white *uti*, in the cavity of the heart, visualize a white and clear 'A' (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Literal meaning: None) syllable, about the size of a bean, possessing five colors of light. Hold the mind single-pointedly on it, and bind the vase breath of the heart. When clarity arises, mix it with non-conceptualization, and remain evenly in the naturally luminous state for a long time. Finally, light radiates from the 'A' syllable, pervading all outer and inner phenomena, causing them to quiver slightly. Everything vanishes like a mirage, dissolving into the 'A'. Remembering the meaning of the unborn from the 'A' syllable, hold the mind and remember the wisdom of appearance. That expands, that is nearly attained, that luminous mind itself dissolves into the 'A'. Likewise, remain in the non-objective, natural state. Having practiced this for a long time and become accustomed to it, meditate on it when going to sleep at night, and recognize the three experiences of appearance, increase, and attainment. Finally, sleep in the state of non-conceptual luminosity, gradually mastering the subtle and gross luminosities. The luminosities of day and night arise in union. When these are stable, one will gain a great conviction of understanding that all phenomena do not deviate from the nature of natural luminosity. To enhance this ability, first become familiar with the mind-consciousness and the expanse of reality, and then, as in the secret teachings, learn how to expand from the material to the expanse of reality. Through skillful means, the three—bliss, energy, and mind—dissolve into the expanse, and from this, non-conceptual wisdom will forcibly arise. The fifth stage is union. From the *Guhyagarbha Tantra*: 'From the aspect of appearance is the illusory body, from the aspect of nature is luminosity. Union is the indivisible *dharmakaya*, there is no form other than emptiness, there is no emptiness apart from form, like rainbows and clouds in the sky. Meditate on the equipoise of union in that way.' This means that the result of meditating on the stages of illusion is to gather all illusory appearances into the non-conceptual expanse of emptiness. In that state, arise as the appearance of a deity composed of only energy and mind. Practicing skill in such samadhi, and guarding it without clinging, then the form is the deity body of illusory nature, and the essence is the non-conceptual luminous mind itself; these two naturally and effortlessly unite, which is the essence of the union of learning. In that case, the view is the Great Perfection of original purity, free from elaboration, and self-perfected, the natural state of original nature, the naturally liberated present moment. The meditation is the self-arisen awareness of appearance and emptiness, the un fabricated, natural, pristine state, guarded by the mindfulness of the nature of reality.
