Know that, first, one should practice the mandala of non-duality between oneself and others. During recitation, the jñānasattva (wisdom being), along with the support and what depends on it, should be placed in the position of the front deity, visualized as connected like sparks, and then invited and merged. The deity to be practiced should also be determined according to the practitioner's capacity: superior, intermediate, or inferior. For extensive practice, according to the intention of the tantras, one should practice the generation and completion stages of Mahottara Heruka (Great Supreme Heruka), completing the mandala of seven hundred and twenty-five deities. For intermediate practice, one should practice the direct instructions of the Karma division, the root deity of the nine assemblies, practicing the abbreviated generation and completion stages, that is, the main deity and the five retinue deities. If even this is difficult to visualize clearly, then practice the abbreviated main nine deities, or just Mahottara Heruka, or even just clearly visualize the seed syllable (Skt. bija). In the practice instructions of Mahāyoga, after extensively explaining the stages, meanings, and signs of the mandala practice, it says: 'In short, everything is a manifestation of the mind, a training of the power of awareness, therefore, for these deities, one can repeatedly transform them, one becoming two, two becoming three, etc., transforming as one pleases, as vast as space.' If a slightly detailed practice cannot be accomplished, then rely on the root deity of the assemblies of these deities. If even this cannot be accomplished, then rely on the main nine or five deities, or just rely on the complete Mahottara Heruka, visualizing all the offspring and retinue as naturally gathering into the complete Sugata (Buddha), like the rays of the sun. Even just visualizing a single blue-black Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:Hūṃ), understanding its symbolic meaning, and combining it with the generation and completion stages, one will attain the accomplishment of gathering all the Sugatas.' As stated above and in other scriptures, as long as one is not deluded by vast illusions and possesses a key to transforming conceptual thoughts into deities, it does not seem necessary to cling to a single practice. Therefore, here, the direct instructions of the Karma division are easy to practice. To briefly show its key points, first, one should clearly visualize and practice each of the three samādhis separately. Then, on top of the four elements including Mount Meru, in the center of a fire mass, visualize the palace of the wrathful deity as the place of support, with the eight great charnel grounds outside, a thousand-petaled lotus, a thousand-spoked wheel, a rocky mountain, a vajra wall, surrounded by a fire mass inside. The palace is complete with nine islands and all decorations. In each palace, on top of an eight-cornered jewel, visualize an eight-spoked wheel, surrounded by a vajra chain, with a white and red moon seat in the center, with only one door, above which is a blue-black E Clearly visualize the positions and cushions of the main deity and the four retinue deities respectively. Then, invite the jñānasattva, and invite Mahottara Heruka (Great Supreme Heruka) through the three ways of inviting.
