Thereafter, the righteous sage of knowledge and wisdom (Sanskrit: ṛṣi vidyājñāna), the righteous mind-born (Sanskrit: ṛṣi manojāta) asked this: "For smallpox, what are the causes, conditions, characteristics, and, classifications, symptoms, and treatments? Please, O savior, king of medicine (Sanskrit: bhaiṣajyarāja), explain." Having been asked that, the answer was spoken: "Smallpox is similar to common diseases, its essence is that fever descends upon the serum, and it arises from the depths of the bone marrow. It is named because blisters or smallpox appear. 25-242 There are two types, black and white. The black type has three: swelling like a yoke, blood-dried like a louse, copper-nail-like with small holes. The white type has three: flesh-red, ash-white, helmet-shaped, round, tiny like moss. Its symptoms are of two types, general and specific. General symptoms are joint pain and chills. The whole body is uncomfortable, there is a loss of appetite, thirst, and lower back pain. The black type, swelling like a yoke, does not appear externally, is very painful, and the whole body is swollen. Black serum is produced from the accumulation of all ailments. Blood-dried like a louse, is red-black and thick. Copper-nail-like with small holes, rises in the middle. These two are caused by blood and bile. Specifically, there is headache, and the pulse and fluids are external. The white type, helmet-shaped, round, is large and scattered. Flesh-red, ash-white, is white and thick. Tiny like moss, is small and dense, thick and rough. Caused by phlegm and wind, the illness is like a cold. The fever is slightly high, and treatment is not necessary. The treatments for these are of two types, general and specific. General treatment, in the beginning when it is immature, open the pores. Stone medicine formula: King Four Flavors, cinnabar and alum, Cardamom, long pepper, and sugar, mix with wine. The dosage and amount depend on the fever and condition. Herbal medicine can clear the heat of the internal organs. Stone medicine can dry the serous fluid and push it outward. If the condition is severe, alternating stone and herbal medicine is best. If the pox has not appeared, the body is swollen, cold, and shivering, Apply disease fruit and sweet milk boiled together. If the pox grows halfway and retreats into the body, or if the pox matures and then reverses, draw it out from the body. Administer sesame and sugar mixture. After sweating, use either stone medicine or herbal medicine, Add four parts of mercury, apply to the back of the neck. Increase the dosage, take six times, to push it outward. Death after the pox matures is rare. Finally, control the condition and eliminate the traces. If the scab of the pox is festering and moist, Use ash of meat, salt, and tangled grass, as well as ash of yellow soil, apply to dry it. The bottom appears, and the previous ones are almost dry. If there is little sleep, much yawning, trembling, or even loss of consciousness, It means that the heat of the pulse and fluids has decreased, and the diet should be relaxed. Eat fresh ghee, tender meat, fresh butter, and honey. Give a small amount first, and a large amount last. If the pox scars are festering due to excessive drinking, Avoid drinking strong alcohol except for a slight taste. From now on, if the diet is good, recovery will be rapid. If the scab on the face falls off, wash with urine. Apply a mixture of goat and pig fat with green thorns. Special treatment should be adjusted according to constitution and cause. For constitutional treatment, such as swollen cowpox, Slightly burn the rhinoceros skin and cowpox fur, Mixed with bean flour, as a general medicine.
