The rest of the story is: The king and the minister both conducted the affairs of state according to Dharma during the day, and at night they meditated on the two stages of samadhi. After several years had passed, the minister actually had a clear vision of the burning Chandali fire. At first, there were no obstructions such as walls around the house, and he could see day and night. Then gradually he could see about a yojana, about a krosha, and even as far as the country of Gaura. Before long, this light increased infinitely. Similarly, all sounds were heard and understood. All the scriptures that he had not heard before were also understood spontaneously. Once, letters from many kings of different regions gathered before the king at the same time. These letters were written by panditas from various countries, bound by rhyme and poetry, making them difficult to understand. Moreover, the languages and scripts were different, and there were many different auspicious greetings with different views. Even though many scribes, reciters, Brahmin panditas, and others gathered to study them, they were still very difficult to understand. The minister unraveled all of these and explained the meaning in detail, and also made responses that were appropriate to each. The king and his entourage said, "You never showed that you knew these things before, what is the reason for this now?" The minister replied, "I only learned it last year." Not long after that, one midnight, waking up from sleep, a very ugly old woman, covered with leprosy, stood up from somewhere, leaned on a cane, came before the minister, and said, "I am hungry." The minister knew that this was an emanation of the Blessed Mother, and without hesitation prostrated and offered all kinds of rich food and drink, requesting, "Please accept me." The old woman placed her hand on the minister's head, and as if blessing him, seemed to dissolve into the minister's own head, and then disappeared. There, he also realized the true nature of reality. Although he became an accomplished one who could bring subtle things and various siddhis under his control, he temporarily hid himself and conducted the affairs of state in an ordinary manner, and acted by understanding the thoughts and fortunes of the people. Once, he was in the presence of the king...
