The Acharya, again, After taking rebirth, he was even more intelligent than before, skilled in debate. A person appeared who manifested the complete body of a deity on a vase. When he was fifteen or sixteen years old, he desired to debate with the master Dharmakirti. He came to Varanasi, informed King Mahaseni, and proclaimed it everywhere. A teacher was invited from the south, and about five thousand Brahmins and countless people, including the king, gathered. As before, they established the teachings as witness and engaged in debate, thoroughly defeating him. He again committed suicide as before, jumping into the Ganges and dying. There, many Brahmins, seeing that their own tenets had been refuted, many became ordained, and many became lay practitioners. At that time, from the land of Kashmir came the Brahmins Vidya Simha, Deva Vidyakara, and Deva Simha, three great Brahmin teachers who came before the glorious Dharmakirti and, with honest minds, engaged in much debate on the tenets. Dharmakirti also showed the correct reasoning. They had great faith in Buddhism, took refuge and the five precepts, and also listened to the tenets. In particular, after listening to the seven treatises on valid cognition, they became very learned. Then, they went to the northern region of Kashmir and propagated the reasoning of Dharmakirti's system. It is said that the middle one stayed in Varanasi for a long time. Again, he went to the southern regions, and in all the places where the Buddha's teachings had not spread or had declined, he defeated those who created obstacles to the teachings through debate. He subdued kings and ministers, etc., through the Dharma, and caused the Sangha and monasteries to flourish immeasurably. The teacher himself built about a hundred temples, and those built by others at his instigation were countless. It is said that the monks and lay practitioners who entered Buddhism through the encouragement of this teacher totaled nearly a hundred thousand, but most of them were entrusted to other Khenpos and teachers. Although the disciples connected by the Dharma spread throughout the earth, they only followed outwardly.
