He also went forth and attained Arhatship, and most of the other consorts and attendants were similar. Then, at another time, King Śuddhodana thought: "These monks are peaceful in conduct and have subdued their senses, which is good, but they come from various castes, and having previously tormented their bodies with severe asceticism, etc., they are not beautiful. Beautiful attendants should be from the Śākya lineage, the श्रेष्ठ (Sanskrit, Śreṣṭha, Romanized Sanskrit, Śreṣṭha, meaning: excellent) ones." Thinking that if all the Śākyas were gathered together, what would happen if the wise ones did not go forth as disciples of the Blessed One? They requested: "To be a universal monarch." The king asked: "What would you do at that time?" They replied: "Serve." The king said: "Now that I have become a Dharma king, why don't you serve? Will you go forth?" They replied: "Let us go forth." The king asked: "All of you?" They replied: "No, one from each family." Then the king made a proclamation. At that time, among the sons of the great Śākya families, Aniruddha was happily playing on the base of the upper palace, while Mahānāman was diligent in his work. The mother of the two said to Mahānāman: "You should go forth." Mahānāman said: "I must finish my work, let Aniruddha, who is living comfortably, go forth." The mother said: "He is fortunate, do not compete with him." Mahānāman said: "Mother, if you wish, but otherwise, send an empty container, and it will become apparent." So, she covered and decorated an empty pot with a cloth and sent it with a maidservant. Indra filled it with dishes comparable to celestial food. When Aniruddha opened it, the fragrance of the oil spread, and knowing it to be excellent food with a hundred flavors, he sent some of it back to his mother, saying: "Send such food every day." The maidservant also spoke of this matter in detail. The mother showed it to Mahānāman and asked: "Have you seen your son?" He replied: "I have seen him." The mother said: "He is endowed with great merit, you should go forth." Mahānāman said: "Whether he is endowed with merit or not, I will not go forth." Then the mother asked Aniruddha: "Son, will you go forth?" Aniruddha said: "What are the benefits of going forth? If you stay at home and practice well, you will become a god or a human, and if you do evil, you will fall into the lower realms. Even if you do evil after going forth, you can still become a god or a human, and...

If one ordains, one will attain Nirvana. Then what are the faults of ordination? There are benefits to staying at home, so I will ordain. A young man named Unwavering, whose young friend is King Good Protector, so he went to Good Protector's house. Good Protector asked him: What brings you here? I came for the matter of ordination. I also want to ordain, so I came to discuss it. Stay here. That night, good cloths were laid out and flowers were scattered. Unwavering slept there, but the bed felt hot to the touch and was uneven and uncomfortable. He thought: Are there stones here? Searching, he found a flower root. He took it as a sign that the root of the matter he had been contemplating for a long time would be accomplished, and he was amazed. In the morning, he was asked if he slept well. He replied: I didn't sleep well, because I was contaminated by clothes with germs. How is that? He asked the person who made the bed. The person who made the bed 16-111 also said it was because of the clothes. He also asked the weaver, who said: No, it's because I got sick while weaving this. Unwavering asked: How do you know? From the hot touch. He praised: You are truly intelligent and fortunate. At that time, Unwavering wanted to ordain, so he asked King Good Protector, who replied: Very good. Good Protector himself was also happy to ordain, but if I ordain, Devadatta will become king and will harm everyone, so first I will ask Devadatta's intention. So he went to Devadatta and said: If we all ordain, what will you do? Devadatta thought: If I say I won't ordain now, Good Protector won't give up the throne. Now I agree to ordain, and after they have ordained, I will not ordain, but will rule the country, so I will devise a plan. So he said: If you all ordain, why should I stay here? King Good Protector thought: Devadatta is lying, so I must make him take an oath and let everyone know. So he announced: Listen, you wise people, Good Protector and Namdru and Unwavering and Devadatta, etc., up to five hundred Shakyas, these people will ordain, please rejoice, and each took a token.
