Pa. The first of the three focuses on sound is: the sound mantra garland, the mind as a lunar sphere, and the base Buddha's body, focusing only on one time. Perform mental recitation or silent recitation, and in the meantime, let the breath remain natural. Then, when exhaling, look at the unchanging base of the secret mantra, which is clear as the self-arisen deity, and then inhale, focusing on the three sounds, mind, and base in front, and at the end of exhaling, restrain the life force and recite. When tired, focus on the sound and mind, the mind and base, and also gather your own deity into the base. Abide in equanimity with your own nature for a long time, and then rise with an ordinary body. The second is: exhaling, inhaling, and retaining the breath, endowed with the nature of your own deity. Close your eyes slightly, but with your mind and awareness directed forward. Not too long, imagine a Buddha's body slightly higher than yourself, with a moon and mantra garland in its heart. Simultaneously with inhaling, gather the moon and mantra in the heart in front into your own heart. When exhaling, place it in the heart in front. In short, focus on the mantra garland above the moon, and on the moon. As long as the recitation lasts, generate joy and practice. Finally, focus on the three branches of sound, mind, and base, and rise. The third is: practice the four branches of recitation as before. Then, look at the base, the Tathagata, and again, with the tongue as if drinking water, gather the mind's horse and breath together into the mind. Just remember that exhaling, inhaling, and retaining the breath are inseparable from your own deity. After that, focus your mind on the formless sound and perform mental recitation. When exhaling, focus on the base Buddha's body and perform silent recitation with speech. 14-110 In short, unite the base Tathagata's body with the unchanging base of the secret mantra. In the first samadhi of recitation, the first is sound, mind, and base, the three objects of focus; the second is focusing on your own heart and the heart in front, the two; the third is only sound. After becoming familiar with the first three, then practice the latter. As it is said: Focus on sound, mind, and base. Abide in the unchanging base of the secret mantra. Recite the secret mantra without losing the branches. When tired, rest in yourself.

That which is transformed is endowed with letters. From the basis, transforming into the basis is just as it is. Whatever is examined outside of one's own mantra, one should contemplate the purity of the mind. Again, by summoning with gathering, the mind bound by life and effort. Secret mantra awareness is combined with the mantra. One should begin the recitation of the mind. Thus it is said. Secondly, ultimate samadhi is, accomplished solely through meditation, in places such as the cremation ground, one meditates on the form, sound, and ultimate deity as previously described. However, here, the mantra garland of the form deity, examined by the mind. Sound is the letter of the vidya-mantra itself, the nature of sound. Ultimate is the completely pure dharmadhatu, abiding in the wisdom of non-establishment of anything in its own nature. Then the main practice is: Secret mantra abiding in fire bestows accomplishment. Abiding in sound bestows yoga. The end of sound bestows liberation. These are the third suchness. As it is said in the later meditation, the first of the three is, having manifested one's own suchness, then, subsequently, one meditates on the suchness of the deity who is the nature of sound, and holding the mind in the center of the flame or rays of light blazing in the heart, abandoning lethargy and excitement by restraining life and effort, one should meditate. Until signs such as the absence of hunger appear, how one thinks 14-111 that one can accomplish, etc., until the attainment of accomplishment, that is the end of recitation. One should also know in other ways, as the latter says: Non-discriminating phenomena arising from karma, the great wise one binds to himself, the mantra practitioner abides beyond the limbs, one should contemplate without attachment. Sound is called a connected rosary, letters strung together and unchanging, like the sound of a bell, uninterrupted, when one thinks with attachment in the mind, abiding in the fire is peaceful, the words are pure and truly possessed, the master who restrains life and effort, having abandoned the two, contemplates in this way. The second is, in the heart abiding in one's own suchness, the moon abides within its own flame, or one clearly visualizes the moon itself together with the mantra garland, then abandoning the form of the letters of the mantra, one should meditate single-mindedly on the mere sound of the tone. As the latter says: The subtle one abiding in the heart is, the mandala of the stainless moon, within which extremely
