At all times, you should strongly generate the thought, "This is also a dream." When going to sleep, first focus on the letter A. When sleep is approaching, focus on the letter Nu; when slightly drowsy, focus on the letter Ta; when the sound of Hūṃ arises, focus on the letter Ra; and when actually asleep and becoming drowsy, it is said to focus on the letter ༀ་ (Tibetan: ༀ་, Devanagari: ॐ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om). However, this takes time in practice. Therefore, from the very beginning, when not yet asleep, focus sequentially on the four letters, and finally, it is said that it is sufficient to fall asleep while focusing on the letter ༀ་ (Tibetan: ༀ་, Devanagari: ॐ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om). At that time, by practicing the intention to grasp the dream, it will surely be grasped. Then, by constantly practicing that intention, most dreams will be recognized as dreams, which is the first key point. Also, during the day, meditate on the throat chakra as before, and then make a strong wish: tonight, I will dream many dreams, I will dream clearly, I will dream good dreams, and I will recognize dreams as dreams. While focusing on the letter ༀ་ (Tibetan: ༀ་, Devanagari: ॐ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om) in the throat, meditate as before. This is the second key point. Then, again, contemplate: all appearances are not other than one's own mind, they are not truly established. There is no difference between the gross appearances of the waking state and what is called dreaming. In this state, observe the mind with a relaxed gaze. Then, slightly recall the letter ༀ་ (Tibetan: ༀ་, Devanagari: ॐ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om) in the throat, and generate the thought that "although appearances exist, their essence is emptiness." This is the third key point. Meditate on these repeatedly. By meditating in this way, first, one will dream a clear dream. Then, one will know that it is a dream. Then, because the thought of non-reality arises spontaneously, as a condition, while the appearance of the dream has not yet vanished, the mind will naturally abide in a state of bliss and emptiness. This is the actual practice of dream yoga. It is said that the increasing practice and the expanding practice, which will be explained below, are the foundation of this. Also, if one has previously practiced focusing on the bindu at the eyebrow center, then at this time, one can use the bindu at the eyebrow center instead of meditating on the five letters in the throat, while maintaining the same intention as before. Therefore, there are also three key points here: being able to recognize dreams as dreams, and being able to recognize the nature of dreams. Even if one practices these for a long time, there are those who cannot grasp dreams, and dreams

However, for those who do not diligently engage in virtuous practices, it is very important to maintain vase breathing and to cultivate the notion of emptiness intensely and for a long time. Fourth, as before, while meditating on any one of the five letters of the throat or the bindu at the eyebrow, cultivate the notion of it being a dream intensely. Focus on an object of container and contents that is in front of you, and practice multiplying it many times and then gathering it into one, or expanding it greatly and shrinking it small, and so on. This is the first set of contemplations. Furthermore, through knowing it to be unreal, perform the contemplation of trampling on things that cause fear, such as fire, water, cliffs, and things that are disgusting, shameful, and so on. Practice unimpededly on things that are obstructed, such as Mount Meru. This is the second set of contemplations. Furthermore, while maintaining the notion of illusion, grasp the rays of the sun and moon and look at the Thirty-three Gods and so on. Go to Tushita Heaven and listen to Maitreya's teachings, look at the face of the yidam deity, meet with the lama and dakinis, and request empowerment. Fly in the sky, enter underground, have fire blaze from above and water gush from below, and so on. Generate the thought of performing various miracles, and meditate on it again and again. This is the third set of contemplations. For all three of these, first focus the mind on the throat and eyebrow, cultivate the notion of emptiness and dream for this appearance, and then, along with their respective contemplations, you must continuously meditate on the thought, "I will do this in the dream tonight as well." By meditating like that during the day, it will naturally occur at night. Fifth, again, during the day, as before, focus the mind on any one of the five letters of the throat and the bindu of the forehead, cultivate the strong notion of emptiness and thinking it is a dream, and in that state, rest in focus for a little while. Immediately after that, visualize all the container and contents of oneself and others as the mandala of Hevajra or Nairatmya, clearly and vividly, and cultivate the notion of emptiness and dream for a moment. By meditating like that repeatedly during the day, it will also occur in dreams at night. First, the deity's form will appear, and by knowing that it is unreal, bliss will be naturally attained, and a state of clear, empty bliss that does not move from the deity's form will arise. With this, the practice of dream yoga is completed.
