is being without elaborations. What is truly without elaborations? It is completely abandoning all clamor, being accustomed to the food of meditation, a solitary dwelling, the mudra of wisdom, and meditative absorption; this is truly being without elaborations. Thus it is said. Regarding this, the differences among individuals who engage in these three practices lie in the magnitude of their fondness for elaborations, the distinction of age or youth, the extent of their resources, the degree of their wisdom, and the intensity of their desires. Those who greatly enjoy elaborations, are young in age, possess abundant resources, and have strong desires are considered elaborate; those of middling degree are considered without elaborations. Those with minimal inclination towards elaborations, and who are of advanced age, are considered extremely without elaborations; the method of application here primarily lies in one's intention. Furthermore, if one's three inclinations are similar, then depending on age, resources, or any other factor, one acts accordingly. Generally, it is not necessarily the case that abundant resources require elaborations, but from the perspective of resources, it is appropriate to engage in elaborations when resources are plentiful, and so forth. Therefore, the earlier Tibetans said, "If all of those are present, then one must certainly do those; others also do them individually." Thus it was said. Moreover, for that and that type of person, those are mostly good, but it is not necessary to practice in that manner exclusively. The former lamas applied elaborate practices to those of inferior faculties, intermediate practices to those of middling faculties, and superior practices to those of superior faculties. 9-494 This is unreasonable. For, in this doctrine, the ultimate disciple of mantra, the king Indrabodhi, who had the sharpest faculties, attained enlightenment by relying on elaborate practices, as stated in the Caryasamgraha. Thus it is said. If that were the case, then a householder vajra-holder would be superior to a monastic vajra-holder, because in this doctrine, the most excellent of vajra-holders, Indrabodhi, possessed the attributes of a householder. Moreover, it is said that Indrabodhi purified the aggregates through the practice of elaborate conduct, but it is not stated in the Caryasamgraha that Indrabodhi engaged solely in elaborate practices. If merely stating that were to make it so, then regarding those who possess vows, the dakinis gather like swans in a lotus pond, when it is said, the swans

Do you admit that you are not a dakini? Like this, you yourself speak of content that does not serve as an example and should not be included in a collection of talks, and repeatedly accuse, saying that the wise ones of the past have said without error that such content should not be included among the wise, this is like a blind person saying to a sighted person, you are blind, you cannot be counted as a person. Therefore, here, enjoying together with the assembly of vidyādharas, King Indrabhuti is taken as an example of the transformation of the body, not as an example of active conduct. In general, do not be fond of measuring those noble beings either. In your own system, you also consider the meditation of union to be extremely non-elaborate, and consider that it has nothing to do with sharp faculties, the meditation of the illusory body is non-elaborate, while the meditation of the generation stage is elaborate, and relative to the former, these meditations also belong to the medium and dull faculties. In particular, in your system, you almost do not consider the sharpness and dullness of the faculties to be innate, but only dependent on whether or not they are practiced, to refute in this way is very imprudent, because in your system, it is also necessary to combine the three conducts of meditation with the three levels of faculties. Furthermore, the elaborate requires many objects, has many bodily activities, the object is vast, and requires many desirable qualities and vidyādharas, therefore it is said in order that the elaborate conduct requires large objects, young age, great wisdom, and great desire. For the other two, one should also know to infer by analogy. If these three conducts are distinguished, then there are three conducts, namely three conducts relative to ritual or action, three conducts relative to meditation, and three conducts relative to time. The first is what was said above. The second is because all the conduct at the time of the generation stage is merely meditation driven by conceptual thought, therefore it is the elaborate conduct of meditation. In this conduct, emptiness is also mixed with conceptual thought, and bliss is only temporary. Starting from obtaining the special completion stage, practicing bliss and emptiness in equipoise.
