With songs, dances, gestures, and so on, possessing vast enjoyment, one engages in conduct that aligns with the method of realizing the great bliss of the manifest enlightenment of the Dharmadhatu. That is to say, in this context, what precedes "vast" and so on is with elaboration, and what follows "with conduct" and so on shows non-elaboration. This is the view of the Ngorpa school, which is very much in accordance with the meaning of the words. Although it is said that the two phrases "manifest realization" and so on greatly show non-elaboration, what is explained below seems to be more in line with the meaning of the words. Therefore, the ultimate mind isolation together with the illusory body, and the path of seeing together with union, etc., the unsurpassed method by which any manifest realization will be attained is the cause of the great bliss of manifest enlightenment. The yogi trains on this path through the three types of conduct, such as with elaboration. So, if emptiness, deities, and bliss are the nature of the mind itself, which is pure from the beginning, and if these are established by their own nature, then what is the use of the practice of learning conduct? It is enough to simply abide in the nature that is free from elaboration and without fabrication. From conduct that is in accordance with the elaboration of conceptual thought, the wisdom that directly realizes suchness will not arise. If someone thinks like this in this context, then that conceptual thought is abandoning or slandering the stages or cause of wisdom. For this profound place, it is necessary to manifest many subtle distinctions of characteristics such as bliss-emptiness and mandalas, and in order to make the unknown known, one will again learn various aspects of the deity, emptiness, and bliss. By training in this way, what abides in the ground will be manifested. Therefore, those yogis who know the distinctions of the appearance of nature, that is, who have attained mind isolation, and the fourth, that is, having attained the fourth instant, all is empty, having attained the stage of exemplary clear light, and relying on the manifest illusory body, even so, if one does not train in the three types of conduct, then one will not attain the fruit of union in this life. For example, although the element of fire exists in wood, fire will not arise if it is not rubbed. Similarly,

Although from the very beginning one abides in the great mandala of bliss and emptiness of mind, if one is separated from the training, conduct, and the three aspects of bodhichitta, then that yogi will not attain the fruit of Mahamudra in this very life. * * * Meaning of What Has Been Subsequently Explained After explaining the third root, what follows is: examining the vessel and dedicating the merit. First: If someone is deceitful, lazy, and only sees the faults of the afflictions of the guru, not the qualities, and slanders the guru, presuming to have received empowerment, arrogance arises. A person of inferior intelligence, even with intention, will not attain perfect complete enlightenment. Without service and veneration, one desires to quickly attain that very thing. If one says it is not true, one becomes angry and wavers. In the assembly, if one sees the guru, one turns one's back. Then, if one goes to a secluded place, one prostrates. Thus, a student who is inferior and of evil nature, even if he is one's own son, should be completely abandoned as if he were someone else. Even if one is born of noble or royal lineage, one should firmly never keep him nearby. One who possesses excellent qualities, wisdom, and diligence, or who reveres the guru as equal to the Buddha, understands the teachings of the Victorious Ones, is steadfast, and has great faith, because he is a suitable vessel, one should bestow kindness upon him. Even if one has heard many tantras and is well-versed in the scriptures, but because one lacks veneration for the guru, one has not received the transmission, such a person has no power even for his own benefit, and his teachings are just a cause for sorrow. Or, if one is fortunate and has received the essential instructions, and is not foolish in intelligence, able to apply the meaning, and greatly engages in the power of benefiting others, but if one lacks the qualities of speech, one will be despised. One who has heard many tantras, is intelligent, knows the six abodes, possesses mindfulness, steadfast intelligence, and is endowed with abundant diligence, reveres the guru, and has received the transmission, such a person is suitable to teach the tantras and essential instructions. These words are easy to understand, but to explain them briefly: being deceitful is the cause of impure vows. Being lazy is because of neglecting practice, so one is not a vessel for the essential instructions. As long as one holds deceit and laziness, the mind will never be secluded.
