English version In this world, one can quickly attain great accomplishments. If one gazes upon the face of the Bodhisattva three times daily and recites this Dharani one thousand and eight times, one will quickly receive the smiling countenance of Avalokiteshvara (观世音菩萨, the Bodhisattva of Compassion). Upon seeing this, one will immediately realize the first Bhumi (离垢初地, the first stage of a Bodhisattva's path), the 'Stage of Joy,' and the Samadhi (念佛三昧, a state of meditative absorption) of Buddha-recitation, illuminating the world with light. If, at the time of death, one enters a state like meditative absorption, one will attain knowledge of past lives (宿命智, knowledge of previous existences) in the place of rebirth. All karmic obstacles will be completely eliminated. If one wishes to uphold this Dharani, one should do so from the first to the fifteenth day of January, May, and September. Observe a vegetarian diet, wear clean white clothes, and consume three white foods. In front of a Sharira Stupa (舍利塔, a stupa containing relics) or a Sharira image, smear a four-cubit square altar with white sandalwood paste. Then, take various flowers and incense, scatter them within the altar, and burn incense and light lamps before the Buddha. Generate a respectful mind towards the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Each time, recite this Dharani one thousand and eight times. On the night of the fifteenth day, one will receive Avalokiteshvara coming and entering this altar. Upon seeing this, all coverings and obstacles (盖障, hindrances), and the heavy sins of the five rebellious acts (五逆重罪, patricide, matricide, killing an Arhat, causing a Buddha to bleed, and creating schism in the Sangha), will be eliminated. One's actions of body, speech, and mind will all be purified. Furthermore, one will attain the power of the Buddha's Samadhi, the power of empowerment, the power of the Paramita (波罗蜜, perfections), and the power of supreme wisdom. World-Honored One, if rain is needed, go to a high place and look up at the sky, reciting this Dharani one thousand and eight times, and sweet rain will promptly and abundantly fall. If one looks at the ground and recites this Dharani a full one thousand and eight times, one can cause all grains to ripen. If, by a dried-up pond, river, or spring, one recites this Dharani one thousand and eight times, the water will immediately fill up. If one blesses one's hand seven times with this Dharani and strokes the body of any sick person, they will be cured immediately. If one gazes upon the face and body of a person who has lost their memory and recites this Dharani one hundred and eight times, they will regain their right mindfulness. If one gazes upon the face of a hungry or thirsty person and recites this Dharani one hundred and eight times, all signs of hunger and thirst will be completely eliminated. If one wishes to establish a boundary and enter the water of a pond, write this Dharani according to the Dharma and attach it to the top of a banner, so that within a hundred Yojana (由旬, an ancient Indian unit of distance), there will be no calamities or misfortunes, and a boundary will be established to protect it. Furthermore, if there are good men and good women who can constantly recite this Dharani one hundred and eight times daily, the accumulation of merit of that person is inexhaustible. They can increase their position, gradually become wealthy and noble, and be at ease. English version: The people love, remember, and respect, and their requests are fulfilled as desired. If one wishes to subdue all kinds of demonic grievances, one should enchant twenty-one times with the Mulatantra Dharani Mantra, using benzoin incense, then chant one mantra and burn one incense. After completing one hundred and eight times, the demonic grievances will be eliminated. If one wishes that all people do not ridicule or despise oneself, one should enchant willow branches twenty-one times each day and chew them in the mouth, and one will be respected. If one wishes to obtain great eloquence and wisdom, use twelve taels of Acorus tatarinowii, grind it into a fine powder, and mix it with ghee and honey. Enchant it with the Mulatantra Dharani Mantra, causing it to manifest three auspicious signs, such as warmth, smoke, and light. After obtaining these signs, take seven pills each day, the pills being the size of tung seeds, and apply them to the heart. After taking them for one hundred days, one will obtain wisdom and eloquence without hindrance. Also, recite the Mulatantra Dharani one hundred and eight times each day, while forming one of the twelve mudras to protect oneself. The First Mudra of the All-Encompassing Body of the Thousand-Handed and Thousand-Eyed Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva First, stand upright with the body erect and the feet together. Slightly bend the right foot a little. First, extend the left hand downward, with the ring finger and middle finger bent into the palm. The little finger, index finger, and thumb are spread out. Turn the palm upward. Then, do the same with the right hand, bending the elbow so that it is level with the shoulder. The palm faces outward. If one wishes to subdue demonic grievances, various heretics, and those with wrong views, causing them to enter the right path, make this mudra and recite the Mulatantra Dharani twenty-one times, and it will surely be as desired. English version Each thumb is raised and pressed against the first segment of the index finger. Let the palms be slightly open. If good men and good women make this mudra, they will immediately eliminate the immeasurable evil karma and karmic obstacles accumulated from countless cycles of birth and death, and they will be reborn in the pure lands of the ten directions in the future. Now, when Śākyamuni Buddha first sat under the Bodhi tree, he was disturbed by all the demon kings, and he also made this mudra to obtain peace and happiness. If one constantly practices this mudra and mantra, one will gradually be able to see the pure and wonderful lands of Buddhas in hundreds of thousands of millions of worlds, and in each Buddha land, one will obtain one million four thousand Bodhisattvas as companions for the practitioner. If one has not passed through the Mandala Dharma method, one must not see this mudra Dharma method.
