The Stage of Medium Faculties The Stage of Medium Faculties. The Samadhi Called 'Like a Magic Illusion' There is a samadhi called 'Like a Magic Illusion'. A Bodhisattva who practices with that samadhi will quickly realize complete and perfect enlightenment and become a Buddha. Thus it is said. If one meditates on dharmas as being like illusions, one will manifest enlightenment like an illusion, as previously stated about dreams. In the stage of the boy Rab Snang (Radiant Light). A wealthy man had only one son. If the son were to become a monk, the king would seize the wealth, so he was not allowed to become a monk. Therefore, I (the one seeking Dharma) was not allowed by my parents to become a monk before the Buddha. Therefore, I ask for a pith instruction on how to attain enlightenment while remaining at home with the enjoyment of sensual pleasures. The Buddha taught that all dharmas are like illusions and dreams. Whenever one remembers these words, one will be liberated from the bonds of samsara and will definitely attain enlightenment in this very life. Thus it is said. From the *Samadhiraja Sutra*: 'Just as one remembers desire in a dream, but does not see it when one is awake. Children are attached to and cling to desire. Know that all dharmas are like that.' Also, from the *Tantra of the Ocean of Actions*: 'All beings, male and female, are not different from one's own mind. If one knows that all of them are appearances of illusion, then becoming a Buddha is like holding something in the palm of one's hand.' From the *Tantra of the Ocean of Wisdom*: 'If one knows one's own body to be like an illusion, all beings, male and female, all forms are like illusions. Which wise person would say that they are different from that?' Thus it is said. From the *Two-in-One Victorious Tantra*: 'This illusion is beyond existence and non-existence, and does not abide even in the Middle Way; it is conventional truth. All dharmas are appearances of illusion, and the self-arising play of non-cessation arises.' Thus it is said. From the *Sutra Requested by the Son of the Gods*: 'How should one view appearances that are uncertain?' The Buddha said: 'Earth appears as earth, earth appears as water, earth appears as fire, earth appears as wind, earth appears as space; therefore, it is uncertain.' Thus it is said. Moreover, creatures like frogs have the perception of space on the ground, so when they run underground, they are not harmed by horses running above. In China, there are fire mice that perceive food and clothing in fire, so fire mice are strong and as big as sheep. If the fire is small, they become dull and as small as cats. Those who perceive earth in space are like eternalist heretics, who make a sound when they strike the sky with their hands.

When they arrived at Kongka Na (a place name), all the crops and plants were growing in the sky. The king said, 'In our country, they grow on the ground, which is unbelievable.' Also, crows and people are active during the day, and insects and owls are active at night. They perceive the day as the night of people and crows, which is also an uncertain manifestation.' Someone asked, 'How should we view illusory supplications?' He replied, 'In the central region of ancient India, there was a king who was both brave and handsome. He was very fond of horses, so the queen summoned a magician and asked him to find a way to make the king tired of horses. The magician conjured up a strong, beautiful, and fast horse and had it stand at the palace gate. The queen said to the king, who was sitting on a golden throne, 'Won't you buy that horse?' The king asked, 'What is that horse like?' The queen said, 'It is far superior to all the previous ones.' The king hurried to the magician and asked how much he wanted. The magician said, 'I want half of the kingdom.' The king agreed without hesitation. Then, another person came and said, 'He is not the only owner. If you want to make a real deal, can you pay half to the queen?' The king agreed. Another person came and said, 'They are not the owners either. If you want to make a real deal, can you give half to the princes?' The king hesitated for a moment and asked, 'How fast does this horse run?' The king went to see for himself, and when he rode it, the horse carried the king away, passing through a place that could not be traversed even after countless eons, a place without any plants, to the edge of a large plain infested with carnivorous animals, where there was a lake. The horse threw the king by the lake and jumped into the lake. The king walked sadly, and suddenly smelled smoke. Thinking he might meet people, he searched around and found a small hut in a valley, where an old couple lived with a very beautiful daughter and a mute son. The king told his story. The old couple said, 'You probably won't see the queen after you return to the palace, so why not live with our daughter?' The king agreed and lived with them for seven years, having five children. Later, the old man said, 'King, you are a blessed person, please take care of this mute son.' After saying this, he jumped into the lake. Similarly, the old woman and the daughters also said the same thing in turn and jumped into the lake. Finally, the mute also opened his mouth and said, 'King, you are very blessed, may you be happy!' After saying this, he also jumped into the lake. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
