Thus it is said. Meditating for a thousand kalpas is less meritorious than remembering the Guru. Thus it is said. Holding the qualities of a thousand Buddhas, from the Atiyoga Tantra: Secret mantra arises from this, endowed with the Guru's kindness. In the center of the heart, or the sole of the foot, or the crown of the head, whoever meditates, that person will also hold the qualities of a thousand Buddhas. Thus it is said. From the 'Arrangement of Vows': With unwavering devotion for six months, one will attain the state of Vajradhara. Thus it is said. From the 'Two Examinations': The co-emergent wisdom that others cannot express, which cannot be found anywhere, is due to the Guru's skillful means and my own merit. Thus it is said. From the 'Gur Tantra': The Guru who becomes the teacher is the activity of all the Buddhas, our father and mother, this should be contemplated in the mind. Why is that? Because Vajrasattva and Buddhalocana, as well as the splendor of Vajra, the lord of the lotus dance, and the accomplishment of the horse king, are not difficult for him. Thus it is said. From the 'Guhyasamaja Tantra': Compared to the Buddhas residing in the ten directions, a single hair of the Guru is superior. Thus it is said. The Vajra Master is the father, mother, and creator of all the Tathagatas of the ten directions for us. Thus it is said. From the 'Source of Vows': The Guru is the Buddha, the Guru is the Dharma, likewise, the Guru is the Sangha, the Guru is the glorious Vajradhara, the maker of all is the Guru. Thus it is said. From the 'Conduct of Yoginis Tantra': By whose kindness does great bliss arise in an instant? The Guru is like a precious body, I prostrate to the Vajra eyes and lotus feet. Thus it is said. From the 'Tantra of Piled Stupas': The body that embodies all the Buddhas, is the essence of Vajradhara, the root of the Three Jewels, I prostrate to the Gurus. Thus it is said. From the 'Praise of Names': Worthy of offering, worthy of praise, a place of prostration, worthy of being constantly visualized, worthy of being honored, the best object of offering, the supreme Guru worthy of prostration. Thus it is said. From the 'Tantra of Subduing All Dakinis': More meritorious than serving and honoring as many Buddhas and Bodhisattvas as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River for as many kalpas as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River, is applying sesame oil to a single pore of the Vajra Master. Thus it is said. From the 'Vajra Garland Tantra': In this body of the Vajra Master, the bodies of the Victorious Ones reside in order. His form aggregate is the Buddha... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thus and so on, it is explained as the nature of the thirty-two gods. In the Samputa it says: 'Because all the Buddhas of the ten directions, rely on the merit of the Bodhisattvas, one pore of the master's hair is supreme.' In the Condensed [text] it says: 'The Buddhas' teachings rely on the virtuous friend, the Victorious One who possesses all excellent qualities has spoken thus.' In the 'Source of the Salty River' it says: 'In the final five hundred [years], I will abide in the form of a teacher. Think of him as me, and at that time, generate respect for him.' Sarah says: 'The suffering of samsara is deep and vast, the supreme boat that liberates from it is none other [than the guru].' Chöjé Sakya Pandita said: 'Even if the sun's rays are very hot, fire will not arise without a magnifying glass. Likewise, even with the blessings of the Buddhas, it is not possible to arise without a lama.' From the teachings of Lama Mokchokpa: 'To attain enlightenment in one lifetime and one body, one must have devotion to the lama. For devotion, one must have an inseparable connection with the lama's appearance.' From his decisive words: 'Although Great Compassionate Avalokiteśvara is white, he appears white; Heruka Chakrasamvara is blue, he appears blue; Vajravarahi is red, she appears red. For me, there is no hope except in the lama. No matter what, I have never been separated from the lama's appearance, so enlightenment in one lifetime and one body is possible.' Lama Kyer Gangpa said: 'To attain enlightenment in one lifetime, one must have devotion to the lama. For devotion, one must remember the lama again and again, like a mother who has lost her only child.' Sangye Nyenton said: 'For devotion to the lama, one must pray from the depths of one's heart, from the depths of one's bones, with tears flowing uncontrollably.' Sangye Tonpa said: 'For devotion to the lama, it must not be forgotten or distorted by wrong views.' Zhang Lama Nyan said: 'Having gone to the presence of Lama Jetsun Chenpo, Rinpoche Drikungpa, Zhang Rinpoche Dusum Khyenpa, Tsangpa Gyare, Gyalwa Godtsangpa, and others, it is said that solely through devotion to the lama, all circumstances are favorable for traversing the paths and bhumis.' The Lama's words: 'Relying on the Lama's blessings, if the continuum is self-liberated and appearances wander into emptiness, even if virtuous activities such as meditation arise intermittently, they will not ultimately arise. If one generates the perception of the Dharmakaya in the Lama, bliss and warmth will spontaneously ignite, illusion will spontaneously arise, dreams will be spontaneously seized, clear light will spontaneously arise, and the bardo will be spontaneously mastered.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
