All these virtues are merely showing the words of aspiration. How so? Just as Mañjuśrī the Brave, knowing how to dedicate, dedicates, and just as Samantabhadra, knowing the manner of dedicating the root of virtue, dedicates, so too, I follow and dedicate after all those great Bodhisattvas. Why is he called Mañjuśrī the Brave? Because he sharpens the stainless, sharp sword of wisdom, thereby destroying all the hosts of enemies who are manifestly attached to things. This was said by Śākya Bhikṣu. Secondly, all the root of virtue from having made this aspiration, I dedicate entirely for the sake of good conduct. Here, 'good' refers to the perfectly complete Buddha. As it says in the text within the commentary made by Śākya Bhikṣu: 'I dedicate for the sake of the supremely good conduct.' How does one dedicate? With the dedication that all the Buddhas who have gone to the three times supremely praise. That is to say, it is done with the wisdom that realizes the three circles as non-objectifiable. As it says in the Ornament of the Mother: 'The especially excellent dedication, its action is supreme, that is a non-objective state.' Like that. Within these two ślokas, 'Mañjuśrī the Brave,' etc., the unsurpassable dedication is taught because of the reason that all the aspirations of the Bodhisattvas are included. What is the difference between the dedication known by Mañjuśrī and Samantabhadra and the dedication supremely praised by the Victorious Ones? The former, like Mañjuśrī and Samantabhadra, only learns the conduct of the Bodhisattva, and does not especially strive to abandon the obscurations of knowable objects with wisdom; it is the dedication of those youthful bhūmi-holders. The latter is the dedication of those great desire Bodhisattvas who especially strive to abandon that with non-objective wisdom. The second has two parts: at the time of death, aspiring to see Amitābha by thinning the obscurations, and aspiring to be born in Sukhāvatī in the future. The first is: when those who make aspirations come to the time of death, may the obscurations of karma, afflictions, and maturation be turned away, far away, and having made the Victorious One, Amitābha, appear manifestly, may I go entirely to that field of Sukhāvatī. The second has four parts: having been born there --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a prayer for dedicating the completion of aspirations, dedicating to benefit sentient beings, dedicating to receive predictions from Amitabha (Nangwa Thaye) after being born there, and then dedicating to benefit sentient beings in the ten directions through emanations. First: If one is born there, what will one do? After going there, may all the aspirations I have made be completely fulfilled. Second: Whom shall I benefit? All sentient beings. Until when? Until the world exists. In what way? In the way that I completely fulfill the desires of all those sentient beings. Third: May I also receive predictions in Sukhavati (Dewachen). By whom? By me. By which Buddha? By the Victorious Amitabha. In what way? In the presence of that Victorious One. In what place? In that pure and joyful mandala of the Victorious One. Among the four modes of birth, in what mode will one be born at that time? At the time of being born miraculously from an extremely beautiful lotus. Fourth: So, having been born in that place of birth, will one always remain by the side of that Victorious One? In that pure land and that place of birth, I, the one who makes aspirations for good conduct, receive the prediction: 'Your pure land will be called this, you will become this Buddha.' Then, having gone to the countless pure lands of the ten directions, I will do much benefit for sentient beings. Does one body go everywhere? No, through hundreds of thousands of emanations. By whose power? By the power of wisdom, by the power of the Prajnaparamita. In the commentary of Shakya Shenyen, the two verses 'mandala of the Buddha' etc., from 'completely going' to 'going there' are in a very appropriate order. According to that way, 'going there' refers to going to the pure lands of the ten directions. If explained in that way, then there are four points regarding the aspiration to be born in Sukhavati: aspiring to receive predictions from Amitabha after being born there, aspiring to go to the ten directions to benefit sentient beings through emanations after receiving the predictions, aspiring to completely fulfill all the aspirations made earlier after going there, and aspiring to benefit sentient beings until samsara is empty after completely fulfilling them. The paragraphs should be divided in that way. In the Sutras, it only goes up to 'do much benefit for sentient beings', and the Indian Khenpos... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
