Someone asked: 'In the teahouse, is there anyone bound by hope?' The Lama replied: 'Where is the one bound by hope?' The person replied that he did not know. The Lama said: 'It's like a drop of water bound by hope, still as stubborn as an old donkey.' After that, he spent seven months in retreat, focusing single-mindedly on dreams. As a result, illusions arose during the day, and at night he went in a dream to Oḍḍiyāna (乌仗那,梵文:Oḍḍiyāna, ancient Indian place name, meaning 'flying'), requesting the combined practice from Guru Lawapa. He also requested the three stages of completion from the Lion-faced ḍākiṇī, as well as the instructions on the ten channels. Again, in a dream, he went to southern India, requesting the outer, inner, and secret auspicious connections from Guru Dikpāla (ཕྱོགས་ཀྱི་གོ་ཆ་,梵文:Dikpāla, guardian deities of the directions). He also went to Potala, personally seeing the three main figures of Tara and her retinue, and prayed. Tara said: 'Illusory body, unreal, is the place to abide. Dreams are the key to aspirations, take them as your path. Luminosity is the key to devotion, offer prayers. Altruism is the key to compassion, abandon partiality.' And she spoke of Dharma such as actions. After that, during the feast of Lama Lhaje, he received empowerment through the two types of generation, self-generation and front-generation, and practiced for twenty-one days. As a result, the yidam appeared on the crown of his head day and night, continuously for seven days. The Lama said: 'Now the yidam is appearing continuously, and the power of dreams has become very strong. Now many armed monks should open the door of Dharma, they have faith in you.' After that, he opened the door of Dharma one summer, explaining the practice of Great Compassion. As a result, the power of virtue diminished, and because of distractions from worldly affairs, he couldn't even clench his teeth. So he stopped opening the door of Dharma and began a strict retreat. However, the virtue could not be restored for a long time. So he thought: 'Until I reach the three pure lands, I cannot eat food or do any altruistic deeds.' At that time, Great Compassion appeared and said: 'Distractions from worldly affairs are the obstacles of demons. Various attachments and aversions will not become friends. Always rely on secluded monasteries. Life is short, one should always contemplate death.' After that, virtue was restored, and as soon as the sun rose on the fifteenth, he personally saw a mandala of Vajrapāṇi (དགེས་རྡོར་མཚོན་ཆ་ཅན་,梵文:Vajrapāṇi, Buddhist protector deity) with weapons, as large as a mountain. On the twenty-second, he went in a dream to the glorious Drepung Monastery (འབྲས་སྤུངས་,藏文:Drepung), and saw the deities of the five tantra classes. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He saw the face of the deity. Everyone said in unison: 'Without the completion of the four empowerments, how can one mature and attain enlightenment? Without meditating on the inseparable generation and completion stages, there is no possibility of liberation. If one seeks with a desiring mind, one will not obtain the fruit. Look upon self-arising as self-liberation, the inseparable nature of the three bodies.' After saying this three times, all appearances were realized as the inseparable nature of the generation and completion stages. After that, he ended his retreat. In a dream one night, the letter A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Literal meaning: None) came to greet him and pierced him through, causing great pain. He also dreamed that he had to eat heavy and light things involuntarily. The next day, instead of attending the Lama's teachings, he went to a wealthy man's offering. That evening, his body ached as if it were being cut, and neither medicine nor rituals helped, and he was on the verge of death. At dawn, White Tara (Tibetan: སྒྲོལ་མ, Sanskrit Devanagari: तारा, Sanskrit Romanization: tārā, Literal meaning: Savioress) appeared and said: 'Your illness is caused by making a substitute for ransom. Now nothing else can cure it, so you must throw away the Torma (Tibetan: བྲུལ་གཏོར, Sanskrit Devanagari: बलि, Sanskrit Romanization: bali, Literal meaning: Offering). This will free you from the karma of hell and liberate you from illness.' After saying this, he threw away the Torma, and the severe illness was cured. From then on, he only believed in and had faith in the Torma. After that, he requested the empowerments of the five tantras from the Lama, as well as the sadhanas and instructions of Hevajra (Tibetan: དགེས་རྡོར, Sanskrit Devanagari: हेवज्र, Sanskrit Romanization: Hevajra, Literal meaning: Hevajra), Krishna Ripada (Tibetan: དགྲ་ནག, Sanskrit Devanagari: कृष्णा रि, Sanskrit Romanization: kṛṣṇā ri, Literal meaning: Black Enemy), Vajrabhairava (Tibetan: འཇིགས་བྱེད, Sanskrit Devanagari: भैरव, Sanskrit Romanization: Bhairava, Literal meaning: Terrifier), and the five root tantras, all of which he requested completely. He thought: 'Until the obscurations of knowledge are cleared, I must practice alone.' One day, about three hundred horsemen came and said: 'Aku Ebal Tsemawa (Tibetan: ཨ་ཁུ་འབལ་ཚད་མ་བ) has passed away, you must come to the monastery.' He said: 'I will not go, you should look for other monasteries. Before I die, I will practice.' They forced him with the Lama's vows to take over Aku's monastery, saying: 'You will increase virtuous deeds, and Six-Armed Mahakala (Tibetan: ཡེ་ཤེས་ཀྱི་མགོན་པོ་ཕྱག་དྲུག་, Sanskrit Devanagari: षड्भुज महाकाल, Sanskrit Romanization: ṣaḍbhuja mahākāla, Literal meaning: Six-Armed Great Black One) will listen to your commands like a servant. Do not stay here, go to U-Tsang. Mahakala will listen to your commands like a servant.' At that time, he came to Kyergang (Tibetan: སྐྱེར་སྒང), built Kumbum Monastery (Tibetan: སྐུ་འབུམ), and became the abbot. Now he wanted to build an iron wall for this monastery. When he piled up stones, the locals destroyed it, which made him very unhappy. The Lama had said: 'There will be a protector who will listen to your commands like a servant.' Now the iron wall was destroyed by them for no reason. That night, many of the people who destroyed the iron wall died, and the next day they came to confess, and I also regretted it, so I held a seven-day ceremony. After that, he thought: 'Now I am distracted by worldly affairs,' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
