At the age of seventy, in the Sakya Monastery, on the night of the twelfth day of the waxing moon of the Tiger month in the Fire Mouse year (Tibetan calendar). With wondrous signs of illusion, he demonstrated inconceivable manifestations of the Dharma, and then passed away in Sukhavati (Pure Land). How could I fully narrate his biography? Please refer to the biography written by his Dharma son and close disciple, the great Zangpo. Towards such a great Jetsun (Venerable Master), the Lama Lotsawa (translator) brothers also abandoned thoughts of closeness and pleased him with great reverence, considering him non-dual with Vajradhara (holder of the vajra), thus mastering all the tantras and oral instructions as they were. To elaborate, I have heard that the biography of this Lama Lotsawa, was initially spoken by Dharma Lord Rinpoche, and recorded by the master Mati Tsitra: 'Omniscient one, omniscient one, how do you realize?' As he said, to speak of his virtues, it must be spoken by someone equal to him, others cannot. But due to the blessing, to speak a little, when this Dharma Lord entered the womb, there were wonderful dream signs, dreaming of the Dragon King adorned with jeweled headdresses and so on. When he was in the womb, his mother dreamed of good samadhi (meditative absorption) and other auspicious signs. At birth, there were signs of a Bodhisattva being born. After being raised for a short while, due to the awakening of karmic imprints, he could speak in clear language, and his mother said, 'Does he only have one throat?' The Dharma Lord, being proficient in Sanskrit, said, 'Your son has no doubts about his throat.' Also, when he was toddling, he would write and read Nagar (Devanagari script) and Lantsa (Ranjana script) and other scripts on the ground with his finger, then erase them. It is said that he knew Chinese and Tibetan scripts without learning them. He said, 'I don't remember the earliest memories.' It is said that he could know a little. Furthermore, his conduct was perfect and pleasing to all, he was peaceful, disciplined, kind, gentle, spoke appropriately, was broad-minded, valued virtues, respected teachers and elders, was respectful and courteous, had dignified manners, and was compassionate to sentient beings. After that, he gradually grew up. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and the types of letters, reading Chinese and Tibetan, the divisions of arithmetic, medicine and painting, and various categories of crafts. Without studying them, he excelled in understanding them, causing the people of the world to be amazed and praised him. Then, the Dharma Lord (chos kyi rje) listened to and mastered all the teachings of his ancestors. It is said that at the age of eight, he spoke on 'Ocean Born' (mtsho skyes), at twelve he spoke on 'Two Examinations' (brtag gnyis), and at fourteen he spoke on 'Saṃbhūṭi'. At the age of fifteen, he mastered all the teachings of his ancestors, and all the ordinary students were amazed. From then on, he was also able to accurately explain the major treatises, opening the eyes of wisdom for his students. Later, at the age of eighteen, in a dream, near the stupa of the mother of the great lama behind Sakya Monastery, a bluish-green monk claiming to be the teacher Vasubandhu (dbyig gnyen), listened to the 'Abhidharma-kośa' (chos mngon pa mdzod) once while facing a curtain. And another time, in a dream, he went to a cave claiming to be the teacher Dignāga (phyogs kyi glang po), where there were many books on logic, and said, 'The keys to these doors are given to you.' Just as he was about to look at the 'Compendium of Valid Cognition' (kun las btus), someone pushed him, and he woke up. Later, he said he would go to see the borderlands. After that, special realizations arose. Later, at the age of nineteen, in a dangerous place, he heard the 'Five Treatises of Maitreya' (byams chos) and a small amount of logic from Geshe (dge bshes) ཞུ་རྟུལ་. At the age of twenty, in rkyang thur in Upper Nyang (nyang stod), he heard the upper part of 'Commentary on Valid Cognition' (rnam nges) four times and the lower part twice from Geshe (dge bshes) mtshur ston gzhon nu sengge, and completely understood all the words and meanings. While staying in rkyang thur, his father's younger brother, the teacher, fell ill, so he came up, and after the teacher's younger brother passed away, he did all kinds of things, and asked to postpone the Dharma assembly for a few days, so the monks began to gather. Especially when yama stag theng was held, Jowo's (jo bo) son Sakyapa said, 'There is no one more excellent than you among the monks.' Otherwise, he said he would give a lecture, so he began to explain. After that, carrying many items, he went to rkyang thur, and in the summer, many people gathered to listen to the Dharma, where he made extensive distinctions and offered the three types of offerings: large, medium, and small. He asked, 'Should I start teaching the Dharma from the beginning?' He replied, 'No need.' So he started from the beginning of 'Commentary on Valid Cognition' and 'For the Benefit of Others', teaching two sessions of Dharma each day, and completely explained the entire text once, and everyone was amazed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 64
