That is called non-deceptive, called truth, called non-deluded, called trustworthy. Because of those, for these phenomena that appear as the objects of the six senses, those generated by the inferior wisdom of bad habits, it is not established as seen and examined, but as said in the manner of the Great Vehicle Secret Mantra, like the appearance of those generated by the power of white habits, this appearing as the mandala of wisdom's play is established. One should endure thus. Therefore, regarding the appearance of great and small delusions, there is no fault in distinguishing between delusion and non-delusion, and in distinguishing between existence and non-existence. For example, when considering snakes and ropes, parts and dust, emptiness, etc., when established in relation to the two, the former ones do not exist. Saying so is not slander; saying that the latter ones exist is not exaggeration. Regarding their knowledge, saying that the knowledge of the former ones is delusion is not slander; saying that the knowledge of the latter ones is non-deluded knowledge is not exaggeration. How it is established as delusion, so it is not substantially existent. Saying so is not slander; how it is non-deluded, so it is substantially established. Saying so is not exaggeration. Therefore, both substantial and non-substantial, and delusion and non-delusion, for the nature of phenomena, there is no such endurance. The nature of phenomena is merely established by the strength of wisdom, whether great or small. Because of these meanings, established by both scripture and reasoning, in the manner of Secret Mantra, all appearances are considered the mandala of self-arisen wisdom's self-appearance, for this, some who hold their own tenets say that these are said for the sake of antidotes, not the nature; or that they are the colors of the completely imputed and dependent, not the nature; or that the scripture is spoken with intention, not with literal meaning, do not say that. Those who hold the tenets of Secret Mantra also temporarily consider all appearances to be so.

In terms of the appearance of deluded consciousness, it is the mandala of wisdom's play. That is merely the self-appearance of wisdom, and that wisdom is also self-arisen. If the self-arisen wisdom itself is not truly established, how can this mandala of play be established? Thus, one should also realize and become accustomed to this. In order to make those mandalas of play also accord with the Buddhas, one should emanate them. Here, an objection is raised: These appearances that appear as the objects of the six senses can be regarded as the true view of the mandala of wisdom's play, because the nature of all phenomena is nothing whatsoever, so appearances are not definitely either of the two. And all those that are indefinite are completely pure. Self-arisen wisdom appears by virtue of self-awareness. The appearances of those who possess the power of good habituation can be established as true because liberation is not deceptive. Similarly, appearances caused by bad habituation are also established as true, because all direct perceptions are free from exaggeration and slander, and because they are the nature of consciousness itself. This also seems to be established as true. If someone says this, then, in any case, all direct perceptions, such as hairs in the sky, a second moon, etc., are without exaggeration and slander, and it is true that they are the nature of consciousness. However, one cannot establish them as true in that way, because there is a difference of deception in acting as things are. Therefore, although such appearances are true, they cannot be established as such a nature, because it has already been analyzed above. Again, someone says this: The appearance as the mandala of the Victorious Ones is the appearance of that person himself, and the common appearance is the appearance of other people, so it cannot be the nature of one thing. That is true, but that fault also exists in your own doctrine. For example, when hungry ghosts see a river as pus, the appearance of pus is the appearance of the hungry ghost's mind, and the appearance as a river is the appearance of humans and other beings themselves. If that is the case, if the basis of appearance is different, then what is the need to say that the river appears as pus? The answer is: Because the nature of wetness and fluidity is a common appearance.
