also manifests as sound. The mistaken consciousness of the three realms, and its maturation, these, how they appear, are not truly existent even in the conventional sense. All are self-originated wisdom and the mandala of wisdom's play. Thus, its nature is taught. Those forms and wisdoms are also not established as such a nature. The nature of all phenomena is that however it is established, its nature cannot be grasped. Because it is indivisible like a vajra, it is also called the Vajrayana. Therefore, all that appears in this way is primordially pure in its essence, and there is nothing established as a characteristic. For a moment, it is the domain of wisdom's self-manifestation, and because it is the mandala of wisdom's play, it is true to this extent. No matter by whom or where, if one contemplates in this way and such an appearance becomes stable, then it will not deceive one in attaining the state of nirvana. Therefore, it is supreme among all appearances, and so it is also designated as the conventional truth, the true conventional. Other appearances, because they deceive the meaning of liberation, although they appear similar, are inverted conventional truths. Here is a refutation: These appearances that appear as the objects of the six senses are appearances due to delusion, not appearances due to non-delusion. Delusion, because it is bound by defilements, is the cause of samsara, so it will not transform into a purified dharma. If one says so, one aspect is true. However, appearances occur due to delusion, due to self-awareness, and due to the nature of phenomena being unborn. Thus, if all phenomena were not unborn and without any inherent existence, then nothing would appear at all. If consciousness were not self-aware and devoid of the nature of awareness, then it would not appear in various forms. If there were no delusion, then various forms would not appear. It is from the similarity of appearances due to these three that one should understand which appearance appears as liberation is purified dharma. One should understand that which appears as bondage is defiled dharma. These two establishments of dharma are also established based on the appearance of delusion. Apart from appearance

It is not dominated by it. As it is also said in the scriptures, it shows that all pervasive afflictions are the nature of delusion, and it is also said that delusion is appearance. As said by Manjushri Mitra: "The fully conceptualized is not real, the fully conceptualized is effortlessly destroyed, wisdom is reversed and becomes wrong, caused by the power of impure conditions, the mind and mental events are the very same, appearing as the meaning of the three bodies." So it is said. The meaning of the three bodies is also stated in the Madhyāntavibhāga: "Meaning, sentient beings, self-consciousness, the consciousness of the appearance, is extremely meaningless to that person." So it is said. It is said that the pure Dharma appears as delusion, and that the appearance is not established: "The Sugata does not arise with enlightenment, therefore his magical transformations appear like illusions, appearing in delusion." And so on. Thus, whether it appears as all pervasive afflictions or as pure Dharma, both are like illusions. It is merely an appearance in the minds of sentient beings. As it is said in the Shri Mayajala Tantra: "The mind is the nature of illusion, enlightenment is also like illusion. For example, a magician recites mantras over a barren woman, and strikes the well-made forms with the force of habit, the forms of four-legged beings and so on, appear to the mind of attachment. Likewise, the mind blessed by the aggregates arising from merit and wisdom, makes the unsurpassed enlightenment appear in the minds of sentient beings." So it is said. Therefore, no matter what appears, all appearances should be known as illusory appearances, appearing in the minds of sentient beings. Then, is the appearance of the Tathagata's wisdom also a deluded appearance? Answer: No, the appearance of non-conceptual wisdom is not appearance itself, because it is non-conceptual itself. Regarding the appearance of the wisdom of the pure world, some do not accept it. If they do accept it, it is only a matter of seeing sentient beings, because the habitual tendencies of their own appearance have been exhausted, so it can be tolerated. So it is said. In short, the realm of the Tathagatas is an inconceivable realm, so it should not be argued about and should be abandoned. So it is said. Therefore, appearance

Everything appears due to the power of delusion. This is indeed true. All deluded appearances are bound by outflows. This is not true, because some appearances become antidotes to karma and afflictions, and therefore do not increase outflows. Furthermore, since consciousness lacks substance and fabrication, it also becomes the cause for the appearance of anything. Because it is not a fabricated dharma, it appears as it is apprehended. As it is said. Dharma is naturally pure, therefore it is also said to appear. Because its nature is not fixed, it appears as it is examined. As it is said. Therefore, the cause for appearing in various ways is that the alaya-consciousness apprehends various objects, and thus the realm of habitual patterns established is diverse, and consciousness itself is self-aware, because it is not substance and fabrication, it is capable of manifesting all images, and all dharmas are naturally pure, and are nothing at all, because there is no obstruction, it is capable of manifesting anything. Having thus established the three causes of appearance, the two aspects of dharma being naturally pure and consciousness being self-aware, commonly become the primary cause for the appearance of all defiled and purified phenomena. The realm of habitual patterns established by deluded consciousness becomes both common and uncommon. In general, because it is established by the power of delusion, it becomes the cause of all appearances, and is the cause of the common appearance of both defilement and purification. From the perspective of black habitual patterns and white habitual patterns, it becomes the uncommon cause. Among them, the black habitual patterns are produced by an extremely deluded mind, therefore they are completely wrongly associated, and therefore the appearance arising from its cause is also extremely deceptive. It is a great deception, therefore it is called deception, it is called untrue, it is called delusion, it is called untrustworthy. The appearances arising from the cause of white habitual patterns, although not truly real, are tolerable for the wise to place their hope and reliance on, because they do not deceive liberation.
