For example, if a person wants to travel a long road, it is not that the destination is reached with the first glance, nor is it completed with the first step. But it is also not possible without relying on that first step. Nor is it possible without relying on the guide's instructions and authority. Just as one reaches the end by relying on these, so too, one will ultimately realize through the scriptures, instructions, and reasoning generated by one's own intelligence. As it is said: A wise person does not abandon the next step until the previous step is stable. Once that is stable, one abandons them in that order. One will not fall into the dangerous abyss, but will reach a place of peace. Similarly, a wise person does not undertake another reasoning until the previous reasoning is stable. Once that is stable, one proceeds with reasoning in that order. One will not fall into the abyss of faults, but will peacefully realize the meanings of things. Like that. Therefore, even those who are overly attached to the teachings of words and the teachings of reason should think like this: 'My own established conclusion is established by immaculate reasoning, so it should be accepted; but the way of Dzogchen is not established by reasoning, so it should be abandoned.' Do not think like that, but enter into this with faith. If it is not like that, one will become arrogant. The occasion when the way of Dzogchen is not harmed by reasoning, this is the fourth. Now, let us enter into the teachings of Dzogchen itself. Among all the scriptures that teach the way of Dzogchen, if the meaning is briefly summarized, it is gathered into four aspects: namely, explaining the nature of bodhicitta, explaining the greatness of bodhicitta, explaining the errors and obscurations of bodhicitta, and explaining the method of settling the bodhicitta. Among these, by explaining the greatness and the errors and obscurations, the nature is also explained. By explaining the nature, the greatness is also realized and the errors and obscurations are cut off. Therefore, there is no separate explanation like this in the scriptures, nor is there anything that goes beyond these. Among these, to summarize briefly, the nature of bodhicitta is: all phenomena of outer and inner existence are the non-dual bodhicitta. Its essence is the nature of bodhi, which is enlightened from the very beginning. It is not to be corrected by later effort or accomplished by antidotes, but is spontaneously accomplished without effort. The greatness of bodhicitta...
