And because it is established by the invisible, it is seen as existing and being real as it appears. Among them, in Buddhism, belonging to the views of the Sravaka Vibhajyavada school, such as the Sarvastivadins, say: Great Brahma and Isvara exist, but they are neither permanent nor a cause. Self and nature are completely non-existent. A spontaneously born sentient being, a person (pudgala), exists in a way that is inexpressible as being the same as or different from the skandhas, like water and a naga. The transference of that person exists, like a naga fleeing when water dries up. However, it has momentary impermanence. For atoms, there is no impermanence of destruction, but there is momentary impermanence, they believe. According to this school's view, the belief of non-Buddhists that Great Brahma and so on are permanent and a cause is a completely imputed phenomenon, because it is established by negating their non-existence. The person exists, and it transfers and does not perish, and the non-perishing of atoms is not, it is established by negation, thereby establishing that the self-character of ultimate reality is substantially existent and is real. There is no need to say much, even within the Vibhajyavada itself, there are many different views due to the influence of schools, such as the Kashmiris and the Madhyamikas, and due to the influence of regions. It is the same even up to the Sautrantikas. To summarize briefly, from the perspective of the Sravakas, the self-characters established by non-Buddhists for these internal and external phenomena are completely imputed and completely non-existent. The self-characters of the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas, which are not like that, the self-character of phenomena established as two internal and external things, arising from causes and conditions, established by direct perception and the invisible, the self-character of the phenomena themselves, are established as substantially existent and real in ultimate reality. The direct perception and the invisible established by the yoga of non-Buddhists, although there is no reversal in seeing it that way, there is another invisible for it, like this, when the existence of death ceases, relying on it, the existence of the intermediate state manifestly arises, and relying on its cessation, the existence of birth manifestly arises, because the continuum of the five skandhas is uninterrupted, the three existences are...

It is solely due to not understanding the characteristic of obtaining the birth of 'one' dependent on the cessation of 'consciousness' that the view of clinging to the imputed arises. For the direct perception of yoga, there is no delusion. It is the same for speculating about the prior and subsequent limits of self and world. Regarding the conduct of yogis: For these phenomena that appear as internal and external objects, the Hearers believe that external objects have their own characteristics, separate from knowledge, existing as substances in the nature of objects to be grasped; and that knowledge also exists as a substance in the nature of grasping them. This view is the imputed, meaning 'utterly non-existent,' which completely negates its existence. Different from this, the unreal imputed, although non-dual, has the characteristic of appearing as dual. The phenomena arising from causes and conditions do not contradict direct perception and non-manifest universals. Are mind and mental factors themselves not the direct perception of self-awareness? Is direct perception itself not correct knowledge? If so, what other reasoning is needed to prove correct knowledge? What other second correct knowledge is more powerful than that which refutes it? Therefore, they argue that it exists as a substance and is truly existent in the ultimate truth. Among them, those who assert the truth of appearances based on internal distinctions say: As things appear, so they exist as substances in the ultimate truth. Those who assert the falsity of appearances say: The unreal imputed, with the appearance of grasper and grasped, and its arising, is true. But that is the truth of conventional truth; in the ultimate truth, the characteristic of self-awareness, empty of duality, exists as a substance. Those who assert non-appearance say: All minds and mental factors of the three realms have never arisen for even a moment with the aspect of grasper and grasped. What appears as grasper and grasped is the habit that is inexpressible as the same as or different from the mind. It itself is also called the imputed. Therefore, all obscurations such as afflictions are adventitious habits, and are the characteristic of the imputed. The nature of mind, even in the state of sentient beings, is clear, self-aware, and naturally established. Even in the state of noble ones, it cannot be reduced from that, because it is primordially so.
