Now, what kind of disciple should the Acharya instruct? As it is said, "One who possesses faith, diligence, and asceticism is a vessel." Also, as it is said in the Guhyagarbha Tantra, "One should teach those who possess the vessel and have good conduct, and give away body and possessions." Thus, the root of all white dharmas is the faith that has longing, desire, and trust; the wisdom that knows samsara as a pit of fire or a prison and is determined to escape from existence; the compassion that knows sentient beings as parents and delights in benefiting others; and the sharp faculties that, through the awakening of the lineage by previous practice, understand the meaning without distortion merely by hearing; and the vast wisdom that, without doubt, accommodates in the mind the vast Mahayana and the profound views and practices of secret mantra; and the asceticism that can enter without fear or hesitation in anything. In short, the disciple who possesses these six qualities should be accepted. Fourth, as it is said, "Do not give the tantra indiscriminately." Thus, when the relationship between the guru and disciple is well established, the guru should carefully examine the disciple's lineage, combine it with their level of intelligence, and give the teachings of the Greater and Lesser Vehicles. One should not give teachings that are not appropriate to their respective intelligence, such as giving profound and vast teachings to those of low intelligence, or giving the teachings of the Lesser Vehicle to those of great intelligence. If this is done, it will not benefit the propagation of the Dharma, and the speaker himself will be at fault. Because those of low intelligence will be frightened by the profound and vast teachings, and will retreat from the path; while those of great intelligence will be dissatisfied with the shallow views and practices, and will create the fault of abandoning the foundation of the path. Thus, In the Vajramala Tantra it is said: "Just as the milk of a lion should not be placed in an earthen vessel, so too, the tantra of the great yogi should not be given to an unworthy vessel. This life and the next are destroyed. If the secret instructions are spoken to an unworthy vessel, the guru's accomplishment will decline." Also, as it is said in the Bodhicharyavatara: "A vessel of vast Dharma should not be given to inferior Dharma." Thus. Regarding how to correspond with the vessel, it is said: "To the inferior, give the practice of detachment; to the vast, give the Paramitas; to the profound, give the Mantrayana." Also, as it is said in the Gurutantra: "To the inferior, give the Kriya Tantra; to the non-Kriya, give Yoga; to the supreme sentient being"

Yoga Tantra. The Unexcelled Yoga is like that. Thus it is said. Secondly, the method of mind training has two parts: preliminary practices and the main practice. The first has two parts: the preliminary practices for a session and the preliminary practices for instruction. The first of these also has two parts: the distant preliminary practices and the near preliminary practices. The first is: 'From the types of mind, abandon activities,' it is said. The method of showing instructions in accordance with the type or continuum of mind, and in accordance with the degree, is mainly that if one knows the method of gradual guidance, then one will also know the method of simultaneous guidance as a side effect. In general, one cannot ascend to a higher level by leaping over without ascending the path in stages, and one cannot obtain the higher level without generating the qualities of the lower level. Therefore, the method of gradual progression is very important. As it is said in the Nirvana Sutra: 'Just like the steps of a ladder, my profound teachings are also to be learned gradually and diligently, not by leaping over but by gradual progress. Just like a small child, whose body gradually becomes complete in strength, this Dharma is also the same. From the stage of entering in the beginning, until the stage of complete perfection.' Thus it is said. After that, the method of gradually guiding the path is: the person who wishes to enter the path should first of all distance himself from the distracting places of worldly body and mind, and go to the solitary and remote places praised by the Buddhas, and there also be content with only the temporary necessities. Abandon all actions that are similar to those of worldly people, such as the non-virtuous and unspecified actions of the body, meaningless idle talk of speech, and the mind following after afflictions and deluded thoughts, and devote oneself single-mindedly to the practice of the sacred Dharma. Because distraction has twenty faults, such as not guarding the three doors, obstructing the hordes of demons, and not generating samadhi and wisdom, as it is said in the Sutra of Encouraging Higher Intention. Compared to offering to the Buddhas for eons with various kinds of offerings, the merit of taking seven steps in solitude with the mind of renunciation is greater, as it is said in the Samadhiraja Sutra and others. And one will obtain the qualities of turning away from the faults of the above-mentioned distractions. In particular, it is especially important for a beginner who has not yet gained stability of mind to rely on solitude. Kon
