The mind must be as vast as the earth. It is said that view, practice, and conduct must be combined. Guru Padmasambhava said: One must practice the generation stage of Tsogyal and the Vajrabhairava. If one does not practice, even the Buddha has not said that one can attain Buddhahood. Practice is not something that can be accomplished in a moment, a few days, or a few months; it requires long-term practice. Practice should be like a continuous river. Which is more important, practice or accumulating merit? Practice is more important. A credible story about this is: In ancient India, there was a king named Rabnang, who had two places of offering. Among them, the layperson Nyima Özer said that one cannot attain Buddhahood without practice, so he only practiced. The monk Kamalashila said that one must accumulate merit, so he only accumulated merit. They also told the king the same. The king asked the golden Buddha statue which was more important. The Buddha statue said: Through merit, one can attain the heavens, but that is also the result of samsara. Through practice, afflictions cease, and one can attain nirvana. Therefore, accumulating merit can become an aid to practice, and practice should be continuous like a river. When the accumulation of wisdom is complete, one will attain Buddhahood. Guru Padmasambhava said: Conduct should be like the autumn wind, without attachment. Whatever attachment arises, one cannot be liberated from it. The story of attachment binding is: In the kingdom of Kosala, there was a king named Light King, who was very wealthy. There was a poor man named Depa, who was very poor. Once, he found a precious jewel. He said: I, this hungry person, have no refuge. If I possess this jewel, it will not become a refuge for the poor. Therefore, I will give it to the poorest person in the world. So he said: I will give it to the poorest person in the world. All the poor people gathered and said: Give it to us! He said: You are not poor, the poorest person is King Light King, so I will give it to the king. The king felt ashamed and said to Depa: How can I be poorer than you? Depa said: Although I have nothing, I am rich because of contentment. The king, although he possesses countless treasures,

He said, "Because I don't know contentment, I am poor!" When asked the Buddha if this was so, the Buddha taught, "If there is no contentment in worldly wealth, no matter how much there is, it is the source of suffering. The contented are rich, and the discontented are poor." So he said. He offered jewels to the king. The poor man only took from the king enough food to sustain himself, and then practiced the Dharma, thus liberating himself and attaining enlightenment. Therefore, attachment and clinging to anything will bind you, so act without attachment or clinging, like the autumn wind. Guru Padmasambhava said: TsoGyal, because you need the fruit, you need completeness and perfection, so you need something like a wish-fulfilling jewel that can accomplish both self-benefit and the benefit of others. Because it is not found elsewhere, realizing one's own mind is Buddhahood. There is also a convincing story about this: In the land of Magadha, there was a king named Zungchen Nyingpo (Gzugs can snying po), who had two objects of veneration: One was the hermit Sempa Senge (Sems dpa' seng ge), who said, "Merely realizing the mind is Buddhahood," and introduced the mind as the Buddha; the other was named Hangbu Dewai Gyalpo (Hang bu bde ba'i rgyal po), who said, "The Buddha resides in the perfect Akaniṣṭha heaven," and always invited and offered to him. The king asked the Bhagavan which of the two was correct. The Bhagavan said, "The Dharmakaya is free from elaboration and pure, it is merely the realization of one's own mind; to believe that it exists elsewhere is like trying to extract butter from sand." It is said that he said this. Now, even yogis meditate on the form of the Buddha, which is a foolish way of creating elaboration, disturbing the mind, and deceiving the mind. Therefore, the Buddha is the realization of one's own mind, which is the Dharmakaya. It is important to understand that the three bodies of the Buddha are inseparable: the unborn mind is the Dharmakaya, the unceasing is the Sambhogakaya, the non-dual is the Nirmanakaya, the non-conceptual is the Dharmakaya, bliss is the Sambhogakaya, and clarity is the Nirmanakaya. Guru Padmasambhava said: TsoGyal, because you want to be able to manipulate the mind at will, you need something like a master of yoga, who is able to transform the consciousness of others, and also able to inject his own consciousness into others, and possesses magical powers. That was in a forest in India, where two yogi master and disciple were practicing, and one day, they went to the city for alms.
