It is the cause of generating a place. The conditions are pride and jealousy. The alaya-consciousness that accumulates clinging, when looking inward, pride arises from clinging as one pleases. When examining outward, jealousy arises from involuntarily becoming displeased. From those five afflictions, the five elements arise: from hatred arises earth (ས་, pṛthivī, earth, land); from desire arises water (ཆུ, jala, water, liquid); from pride arises fire (མེ, agni, fire, flame); from jealousy arises wind (རླུང, vāyu, wind, gas); from ignorance arises space (ནམ་མཁའ, ākāśa, space, void). Thus, the outer container world is formed. By gaining stability in this, the inner five elements are formed: from hatred arises bone; from desire arises blood; from ignorance arises flesh; from pride arises warmth; from jealousy arises breath. Thus, forming and clinging, one takes a body in the manner of the four types of birth: by ignorance, one is born wetly inside; by pride, one is born oviparously inside; by hatred, one is born from moisture and heat inside; by desire, one is born viviparously inside. There, after taking a fully ripened body, one mixes fully ripened thoughts: my father and my mother, and relatives, roots and branches, places and regions, and homes arise, from the root of samsara, the trunk, branches, and fruits ripen. Due to clinging and attachment to this, it is called the bardo. In the period from abandoning the previous body to not taking the next body, like a dream, because all the senses are complete, there is no obstruction to land, stones, mountains, and rocks. Having the fleshly form of the previous existence, because the continuity of delusion is not cut off, one is not named a Buddha. Because there is no aggregate of flesh and blood, one is not named a sentient being. One is also not named the five elements, one is not as stable as before, one is vague and like a dream. So, if one were to give it a name, it would be called a wandering alaya-consciousness. Previously, due to clinging to desire, the red wind of karma pushes from behind, and the darkness of the eon welcomes from ahead. The sound called "རྒྱོབ་སོད་" appears, or countless discordant sounds are emitted, and so on. There, the appearance is seen as the city of samsara of the six realms, because one desires a support, one thinks that parents and relatives are pleasing, or one thinks that it is one's own house, or one desires to go there, so one goes to a support, and due to the power of good and bad karma, one enters into the six realms and takes a body, like water poured into a measuring cup.

Then it becomes one and revolves. It is said that the way of revolving is like that. When Jomo asked the master emanation, "What is the way of liberation?" The master replied, "In order to be liberated, although eighty-four thousand afflictions were mentioned, they did not become a method of liberation. One wants to meditate on that reality, one wants to realize it, one wants to practice it, one wants to understand it, one wants to ascertain it. Thus, one remains on the basis of doing, which contradicts not doing. Those five afflictions, the Shravakas want to abandon, the Pratyekabuddhas want to hinder, the Mind-Only or Madhyamikas want to subdue, the outer and inner Mantras all want to take as a cause. Thus, the doer remains on the basis, and on top of all afflictions, one accumulates the obscuration of knowledge. First, from the obscuration of mind to the last obscuration of knowledge, one should know it as the way of delusion." Then, regarding the way of liberation, there are three dharmas: the way of liberation of the path, the way of liberation of time, and the way of liberation of the bardo. Among these, the way of liberation of the path, according to the system of Dzogchen, at the time of the wisdom of hearing, one does not understand the meaning of the reality, one does not realize it, one does not know it, and one does not ascertain it. One does not abandon afflictions like the Shravakas, nor does one hinder them like the Pratyekabuddhas, nor does one subdue them like the Bodhisattvas, nor does one transform them like the outer and inner Mantras, nor does one carry them naturally like ordinary people. Then, is there no need for hearing and explanation? It is not so, in order to counteract the eighty-four thousand afflictions, eighty-four thousand doors of Dharma were proclaimed, which is not contradictory. The root of the eighty-four thousand afflictions is the five poisons, the root of the five poisons is the three poisons, the root of that is the two graspers, the root of that is the consciousness of self-grasping, its basis is the non-existent dharma, the one and only dharma, the dharma of Nirvana (Sanskrit: nirvāṇa, Devanagari: निर्वाण, Romanization: nirvana, Literal meaning: cessation), the one and only dharma, the dharma of equality (Sanskrit: samatā, Devanagari: समता, Romanization: samatā, Literal meaning: equality), the one and only dharma, the indivisible (Sanskrit: advaya, Devanagari: अद्वय, Romanization: advaya, Literal meaning: non-dual) dharmadhatu, that is the only one. Therefore, at the time of the wisdom of Dzogchen, the tantras, the instructions of the great guru, reveal delusion and untruth. If one recognizes a fault as a fault, one will not follow the fault. First, attachment arises from the subtle mind, and returning is from the gross body. Just knowing that there is no attachment to the objects appearing to the five senses, once the nature of attachment and aversion is liberated, one will be disgusted.
