Refuge The Daily Yoga of Taking Refuge. Guru Padmasambhava said: The escort that saves oneself from the fear of samsara must rely on taking refuge. Jomo asked: Then, what are your thoughts for the child? The master said: Regarding this, the root of all Dharma is taking refuge. If taking refuge is not interrupted, it is like planting anything on barren land, it will not grow. Moreover, taking refuge has three aspects: outer, inner, and secret. The outer refuge is the Three Jewels: Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. The inner refuge is the Three Roots: Guru, Yidam, and Dakini. The secret refuge is the Three Trainings: View, Meditation, and Conduct. The actual practice is: Visualize the Three Jewels arising instantaneously in the sky in front, and recite: I take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha! I take refuge in the Guru, Yidam, and Dakini! I take refuge in the View, Meditation, and Conduct! Recite this three times. If done from the outer meaning, it becomes accumulating merit. If done from the inner meaning, it becomes empowerment. If done from the secret meaning, it becomes preventing nihilistic views. Therefore, it is very important to do this at the beginning of any virtuous activity. Guru Padmasambhava said: The daily yoga of taking refuge is done in this way. 3 Guru Padmasambhava said: To purify the obscurations of the body, prostration alone has great merit. Moreover, prostration has three aspects: outer, inner, and secret. The object of outer prostration is the Three Jewels of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, which are the nature of the Three Kayas and Five Wisdoms. The object of inner prostration is the Three Roots: Guru, Yidam, and Dakini. The object of secret prostration is the nature of the Guru's Five Kayas and Five Wisdoms. Furthermore, painted images, statues, etc., are the supports of body. Scriptures, books, etc., are the supports of speech. The monastic community, etc., are the supports of mind. These are the outer three supports. The inner supports of body are the actual Guru or an image, or the statue or thangka of the Yidam, and the painted or sculpted images of Dakinis and Dharma Protectors. The lineage of teachings of these are the supports of speech. The forms of hand gestures are the supports of mind. The secret three supports are all appearances of the form body encompassed by the Five Families are the supports of body. All that is encompassed by Oṃ (藏文:ཨཱོྃ,梵文天城体:ओम्,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡), Āḥ (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आः,梵文罗马拟音:āḥ,汉语字面意思:啊), and Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) are the supports of speech. The vajra and bell are the supports of mind. Regarding this, the actual practice of prostration is: to that support

Either the beings are actually present, or visualize them in the sky in front. With the body, prostrate with the five limbs touching the ground. With the mouth, recite the words of prostration. With the mind, imagine placing the feet of those objects of veneration on the crown of your head, and just by touching, visualize your obscurations dissipating like white mist. Moreover, outwardly, prostrate with this ordinary body. Inwardly, emanate countless bodies and prostrate. Secretly, prostrate in the state of mind itself. Recite these words: Protector, unsurpassed Buddha Jewel. Accomplisher, unsurpassed Dharma Jewel. Guide, unsurpassed Sangha Jewel. I prostrate to the object of offering, the Three Jewels. Root of the lineage, precious Lama. Yidam deity who causes the arising of accomplishments. Dakini who bestows blessings well. I respectfully prostrate to the Three Roots. I prostrate to the Dharmakaya, devoid of focus. I prostrate to the Sambhogakaya, complete with enjoyment. I prostrate to the Nirmanakaya, which emanates in various forms. I prostrate to the immutable Vajrakaya. I prostrate to the Abhisambodhikaya, the body of perfect enlightenment. Having perfected the two accumulations and reached the ultimate in qualities, I prostrate to the assembly of body and wisdom. Thus, recite. This prostration completes the actions of body, speech, and mind, and is the sole essential for purifying obscurations. Prostration is said to be a practice of continuous yoga. 4. From the mouth of the master Padmasambhava: The condensed seven practices are completely pure, therefore this is extremely important, he said. That is, first, to request awareness; second, to offer the body; third, to confess sins; fourth, to rejoice; fifth, to request the turning of the wheel of Dharma; sixth, to request not to pass into nirvana; and finally, to dedicate the root of virtue to enlightenment. So, what is the nature of the seven branches? It is the aspect of samadhi. What is the necessity? The first three are for oneself, the latter four are practiced for the sake of others. These are the outer seven branches, he said. The inner seven branches are: Thinking that the mandala's assembly of deities will hold me with compassion; offering my body, blessing it into a body of wisdom; confessing all sins and obscurations that I have before the yidam deity; thinking of requesting the yidam deity to act for the benefit of beings;
