Bhya! This means that for the path one has entered, one should cultivate patience in meditation and strive to grasp one key point. If one cannot meditate on one point and grasps too many threads, preparing too many kinds like a king's food, it will not be accomplished. Therefore, one should understand the many keys of entering and returning from the path, and with whatever experience arises, focus one's mind and enter, and return from other paths. Therefore, until one grasps one aspect of virtue, one must focus on it with single-minded determination, for if one does not rely on the lower path, one cannot ascend to the higher. By doing so, one grasps the point, experience arises, and one sees the essence and power arises, just as a strong seed sown in fertile soil. In short, the basis for the arising of all virtues is intense practice, so one should strive for it. Third, there are two methods for generating power: generating power in the path in which one abides, and transforming previously non-existent, newly arisen afflictions and thoughts into power. The first is: generating power in the path in which one abides. If there is no power in the path in which one abides, one should generate power through other means. This means that if one's path abides in the Dharma of skillful means and there is no power, it is a fault of clinging to objects and characteristics and falling into mere skillful means. Therefore, one should generate power through the wisdom that knows all Dharmas to be without inherent existence. If one abides in the Dharma of wisdom and there is no power, it is a fault of falling into mere wisdom and being biased towards emptiness. Therefore, one should pay attention to the key of cause and effect and generate power through the Dharma of skillful means. Similarly, if one abides in shamatha and no power arises, it is a fault of not understanding the abiding nature. Therefore, one should generate power through introducing the nature of reality and through vipashyana. If one abides in vipashyana and there is no power, it is a fault of the abiding being too short. Therefore, one should rely on mindfulness and generate power through shamatha. Similarly, one should understand all things such as samadhi and post-meditation. In short, continuous practice is the key to all power. Second, there are two ways to transform previously non-existent, newly arisen afflictions and thoughts into power: transforming afflictions into power and transforming thoughts into power. The first is: seizing the key of afflictions and transforming them into the path. This means that it is impossible for afflictions not to arise, and one's own afflictions will not automatically transform into the path. Therefore, one must seize the key of the arisen afflictions and transform them into the path, thereby generating power. There are three situations: the fault of not abandoning.

The benefits of abandoning, and the methods of how to abandon. If we apply this to something like attachment, firstly, the faults of not abandoning are: I will lose myself to the control of other beings, both human and non-human, who are filled with attachment. Attachment will grow greatly, and its karma will be accumulated; cold diseases will set in; one will need to consult female oracles; in the future, one will be born as worms in the womb, etc., and the cause and effect will definitely follow. Secondly, the benefits of abandoning are: all humans and non-humans who are filled with attachment will be brought under one's own control; the samadhi of bliss and emptiness will arise; cold diseases will be cleared away; one will be liberated from female oracles; female protectors will assist in accomplishing one's goals; in the future, one will be born in Sukhavati (the Pure Land of Bliss). Thirdly, the methods of how to abandon on the path are: when strong attachment arises, one must abandon it on the path on that seat, within that wheel. There are three aspects to this: do not throw stones at a pig's snout; apply warmth to the navel; kill the enemy as soon as they are captured. Firstly, not throwing stones at a pig's snout means: allowing the afflictions to fully develop their strength. Secondly, applying warmth to the navel means: abandoning on the path without accumulating karma. Thirdly, killing the enemy as soon as they are captured has two aspects: understanding and the actual method of abandoning. Firstly, understanding means: when the essence of the mind—the unconditioned wisdom—arises, one establishes interdependence. If this is not present on the basis of wisdom, one cannot proceed on the path. Just as a face cannot be reflected if a mirror is not clear. Therefore, it is crucial to allow the afflictions to fully develop their strength, not accumulate karma, and in the state where the essence of wisdom arises, not to be interrupted by other thoughts. If interrupted, it will ripen into the power of that thought. Abandoning on the path on this basis is how one truly proceeds on the path, like the elixir that turns things into gold. Secondly, the actual method of abandoning is: by looking at the essence of attachment and resting in its state, bliss and emptiness will arise together as the essence of non-conceptual wisdom. In this state, one abandons on the path of love, compassion, and bodhichitta. That is, firstly, generate bodhichitta; in the middle, rest in freedom from elaboration; and finally, seal it with dedication. Its function is: by generating bodhichitta, one goes on the path of the Great Vehicle; by resting in freedom from elaboration, realization arises; by making dedication, merit increases. For each of these, one should practice from the initial arising to just a slight progression on the path. From generating bodhichitta to dedication, one should ensure that one is not interrupted by other thoughts.
